El muy interesante campeonato mundial Niyomtrong-Rosa se cancela por el pasaporte del visitante

El miércoles de la semana que viene era el día en el que teóricamente iba a producirse un interesantísimo campeonato mundial del peso mínimo entre el titular WBA, y número 1 de la división, el tailandés Thammanoon Niyomtrong, y el aspirante obligatorio dominicano Erick Rosa. Sin embargo, aparentemente la pelea ya no seguirá adelante, sin que el motivo de ello sea una lesión, un problema con la sede del evento o algo por el estilo.
Cuando Rosa llegó a Tailandia éste fue detenido durante más de un día debido a que su pasaporte caducaba en abril y las leyes tailandesas exigen que los visitantes dominicanos tengan pasaportes con al menos una vigencia de seis meses. Más allá de esto, la verdad sobre todo lo sucedido es bastante difícil de desentrañar.
Según el equipo de Rosa, ellos solicitaron a los «tailandeses» toda la documentación para entrar al país y estos fueron lentos en las respuestas. En cualquier caso, lo más lógico y eficaz había sido solicitar la información pertinente a un órgano público dominicano con los conocimientos necesarios.
De todos modos, es cierto que todo parece indicar que desde la comisión tailandesa no se hizo tampoco ningún esfuerzo por intentar facilitar la resolución favorable del caso y que no deja de ser absurdo que ahora mismo Rosa siga en Tailandia a la espera de poder regresar a su país, ya que las autoridades se han quedado con su pasaporte.
Algunos apuntan a que la pelea supuestamente habría podido llegar a producirse igualmente pero que el equipo de Rosa rechazó seguir adelante con ella, alegando que todo había sido una estratagema para debilitarles. Ciertamente, no sería la primera vez que en Tailandia un equipo visitante sufre extraños contratiempos (algún boxeador incluso ha padecido un pequeño y raro accidente de tráfico), y es completamente cierto que era una de las defensas más exigentes del reinado de Niyomtrong. Con todo, si en esta ocasión existen unas leyes que, por injustas que sean, no fueron cumplidas por Rosa y su equipo, estos tienen poco a lo que agarrarse incluso aunque todo lo sucedido sea bastante conveniente para el campeón.
Ahora sólo resta esperar a que la WBA se pronuncie respecto a este caso, siendo de suponer que el organismo volverá a ordenar el combate, quizás después de darle un margen de tiempo a Niyomtrong para que cumpla una defensa voluntaria.

Wednesday of next week was the day on which was theoretically going to take place a very interesting world minimumweight championship between the WBA titleholder, and division’s number 1, the Thai Thammanoon Niyomtrong, and the Dominican mandatory challenger Erick Rosa. However, apparently the fight will no longer go ahead, without the reason for it being an injury, a problem with the venue of the event or something of the sort.
When Rosa arrived in Thailand he was detained for more than a day because his passport expired in April and Thai law requires Dominican visitors to have passports that are valid for at least six months. Beyond this, the truth about everything that happened is quite difficult to unravel.
According to Rosa’s team, they asked the «Thais» for all the documentation to enter the country and they were slow giving them answers. In any case, it would have been the most logical and effective thing to request the pertinent information from a Dominican public body with the necessary knowledge.
In any case, it is true that everything seems to indicate that no effort was made from the Thai commission to try to facilitate a favorable resolution of the case, and that it is absurd that right now Rosa is still in Thailand waiting to return to his country, since the authorities have his passport.
Some point out that supposedly the fight could have taken place anyway but that Rosa’s team refused to go ahead with it, claiming that it had all been a ploy to weaken them. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time in Thailand that a visitor team has suffered bizarre mishaps (some boxer has even been in an little and strange car accident), and it’s completely true that it was one of the most challenging defenses of Niyomtrong’s reign. However, if on this occasion there are some laws that, unfair as they may be, were not complied with by Rosa and his team, they have little room for an official protest even if everything that happened is quite convenient for the champion.
Now it only remains to wait for the WBA to rule on this case, it being assumed that the organization will order the fight again, perhaps after giving Niyomtrong a margin of time to make a voluntary defense.
