Former heavyweight champion Joseph Parker defeated cruiserweight Massey by decision, Clarke beat Espíndola

After facing a boxer like Joe Joyce, almost any opponent would have been easy by comparison. However, in the recovery fight for New Zeleander former world champion Joseph Parker 31(21KO)-3(1) the matchmaker went too far by choosing as his opponent a cruiserweight like the British Jack “One Smack” Massey 20(11KO)-2, who weighed about 15 kg (33 lb) less than him. Even so, Parker was unable to obtain a knockout, but had to settle for a hard-fought unanimous decision victory and scores of 96-93, 97-92 and 97-93.

Parker followed up Massey throwing a few jabs before landing sporadic power shots, usually followed by clinches, in which he tried to wear down his opponent with his weight. Massey moved and very sporadically landed a counter, but he was being clearly inferior, his face reddened and it looked like he was going to end up suffering important difficulties if things continued like that.

Massey needed to increase drastically his number of punches, but instead he kept using his feet far more than his hands, allowing Parker to find opportunities to land powerful right hooks. Finally, towards the middle of the bout, Massey avoided going back so much and landed some clean hooks at short distance against his rough, slow and predictable opponent, but soon after he began to resort to clinches too much and this contained his success. What’s more, in the eighth round his holding cost him losing a point.

Despite this, Parker was very clumsy and hesitant on attack, so Massey was able to win rounds with few jabs along with occasional lunges and hooks at short distance, although perhaps in the exchanges of the last round the visitor connected the most powerful hands against «One Smack», who showed his tenacity too late.

Frazer Clarke won by stoppage
The British Olympic bronze medalist Frazer «The Eraser» Clarke 5(4KO)-0 was looking to outperform the promising Ivan Dychko knocking out the resistant Argentinian Kevin Nicolás Espíndola 7(2KO)-7(1) in Eubank-Smith’s support, objective he attained. Clarke handed Espindola the first stoppage loss of his career with a fourth-round TKO.

It was a one-sided fight, with Clarke pinning on the ropes Espíndola from the start and landing constant hooks to the body, right uppercuts, straight right hands, left hooks to the head, etc. The heavy Argentinian (with his 129.3 kg or 285 lb) withstood a remarkable amount of power shots against the ropes, repositioned himself when he could and very eventually landed a left hook or a jab. In any case, with this he did not test Clarke at all, since the favorite unleashed his combinations comfortably, almost as if he was facing a punching bag, during the four rounds that the clash lasted before the visitor quit on his stool alleging an injury on his right hand.
