La WBO emite resolución respecto ranking superligero: José C. Ramírez al alcance de mundial por delante de Teófimo y Catterall

Más de tres semanas después de que José Carlos Ramírez y Jack Catterall presentasen sus protestas iniciales respecto al posicionamiento de Teófimo López, que le garantizaba el acceso al mundial en caso de que Josh Taylor dejase vacantes sus cinturones, la WBO ha deliberado de forma definitiva sobre quién merece estar en el 2º puesto del peso superligero.
En un largo documento oficial en el que se detalla el caso, el organismo ha terminado por concluir primeramente que Catterall no merece escalar desde su posición de 3º, puesto que su combate contra Taylor fue muy igualado y el BBBofC no cambió el resultado oficial del mismo, de hecho esta federación incluso explicó que la tarjeta del juez que se vio sancionado no afectó al veredicto. Por otro lado, Catterall no cumple con los requisitos para mejorar su posición dado que no se ha enfrentado a un boxeador ranqueado en los últimos 18 meses y no cuenta con logros extraordinarios pasados en su carrera.
En cuanto a Teófimo López y Ramírez, la WBO ha señalado que ambos poseen logros amateur y profesionales, éxitos en peleas de campeonato, buen nivel de oposición, etc. Sin embargo, simplemente López viene de una derrota ante Kambosos en el peso ligero y Ramírez, además de ser excampeón superligero, llega de derrotar al 6º clasificado en el ranking oficial, el extitular José Pedraza. Por lo tanto, la WBO ha decretado que López debe posicionarse 4º por debajo de Catterall y que Ramírez debe escalar hasta el 2º puesto del ranking.
Como consecuencia de esta decisión, si Taylor deja sus cinturones vacantes próximamente, el número 1 del ranking Liam Paro y el número 2 José Carlos Ramírez serán quienes tendrán que pelear por el título mundial WBO sin dueño.

More than three weeks after José Carlos Ramírez and Jack Catterall presented their initial protests regarding the ranking of Teófimo López, which guaranteed him access to the world championship in the event that Josh Taylor vacated his belts, the WBO has deliberated definitively on who deserves to be in the 2nd place at the super lightweight list.
In a long official document detailing the case, the sanctioning body has ended up concluding first that Catterall does not deserve to climb from his 3rd position, since his fight against Taylor was very close and the BBBofC did not change its official result. In fact, this federation even explained that the scorecard of the judge who was demoted did not affect the overall result. On the other hand, Catterall does not meet the requirements to improve his position taking into account that he has not faced a ranked fighter in the last 18 months and that his past achievements are not exceptional.
As for Teófimo López and Ramírez, the WBO states that both have amateur and professional achievements, successes in championship fights, good quality of opposition, etc. However, López is simply coming of a loss to Kambosos at lightweight and Ramírez, in addition to being a former super lightweight champion, comes from defeating the 6th-ranked fighter, former titleholder José Pedraza. Therefore, the WBO has decreed that López must be positioned 4th below Catterall and that Ramírez must climb to the 2nd place in the ranking.
As a consequence of this decision, if Taylor vacates his belts soon, the number 1 in the ranking Liam Paro and the number 2 José Carlos Ramírez would be the ones who would have to fight for the WBO super lightweight title.
