Caleb Plant alcanza acuerdo para enfrentarse a Anthony Dirrell

El deseo de muchos aficionados respecto a la división del peso supermedio es ver enfrentarse a los excampeones mundiales Caleb Plant y David Benavídez, pelea que no sólo tiene interés deportivo, sino también sentido y potencial económico. Con todo, de momento lo que va a ofrecer la categoría son peleas separadas de ambos en las que serán evidentes favoritos.
Según ha informado Jake Donovan, Plant ha alcanzado un acuerdo para enfrentarse al excampeón mundial Anthony Dirrell en una fecha por determinar. Por otro lado, hay que recordar que David Benavídez está emplazado a enfrentarse en una eliminatoria WBC en mayo a David Lemieux, por lo que como mínimo habrá que esperar hasta el último tercio de la temporada para ver un potencial choque Benavídez-Plant.
En este sentido se debe destacar que ambos están ofreciendo tiras y aflojas respecto a un posible duelo en septiembre, si bien, más allá de las habladurías y los planes secretos, por ahora los equipos de los dos boxeadores tendrán que centrarse en los objetivos que tienen delante. En el caso de Plant, Dirrell parece un oponente adecuado para sumar una victoria clara y recuperar moral, aunque de ningún modo es un mayúsculo combate como algunos quieren hacer creer.
Dado que Plant llega de ser vencido antes del límite por Canelo, está dentro de los parámetros habituales que encare una pelea de recuperación ante un rival por debajo de la élite, encajando bien un Dirrell que tiene mucha experiencia, buena técnica y que viene de ganar por KOT al competente Marcos Hernández. Con todo, no se debe perder de vista que Dirrell está encaminándose hacia el retiro, que su rendimiento ha decrecido mucho y que no dejó buenas actuaciones precisamente ante Yildirim, Kyrone Davis y el propio Benavídez. Por ello, al margen de las comparaciones que se podrán hacer entre Plant y Benavídez, sobre el papel Dirrell entrará muy por detrás en las apuestas y con escasas posibilidades de victoria.

The desire of many fans regarding the super middleweight division is to see a fight between former world champions Caleb Plant and David Benavídez, clash that not only has sporting interest, but also sense and economic potential. However, for now what the division is going to offer is separate fights for both in which they will be obvious favorites.
As reported by Jake Donovan, Plant has reached an agreement with former world champion Anthony Dirrell to fight on a date to be determined. On the other hand, it should be noted that David Benavídez has to face David Lemieux in a WBC eliminator in May, so we will have to wait until the last third of the season to see a potential Benavídez-Plant clash.
In this sense, it should be noted that both are generating headlines regarding a possible duel in September, although, beyond the rumors and secret plans, for now the teams of the two boxers will have to focus on the objectives they have in front of them. In the case of Plant, Dirrell seems like a suitable opponent to achieve a clear victory and recover morale, although this is by no means a huge bout as some try to make the public believe.
As Plant comes from being defeated by stoppage by Canelo, it is within the usual parameters that he faces a recovery fight against a rival below the elite level. Dirrell fits well in this plan, since he has a lot of experience, good technique and comes from a win by TKO over competent Marcos Hernández. However, it should not be forgotten that Dirrell is nearing retirement, that his level is decreasing and that he did not have good performances against Yildirim, Kyrone Davis and Benavídez. For this reason, aside from the comparisons that could be made between Plant and Benavídez, on paper Dirrell will be an evident underdog and will have little chance of victory.
