Después de varios aplazamientos, al fin la prometedora Caroline Dubois 1(0KO)-0, olímpica en Tokyo 2020, ya es boxeadora profesional. Su debut se ha producido este sábado en el respaldo del evento Eubank-Williams, logrando en él un triunfo a los puntos (60-54) sobre la asequible lituana Vaida Masiokaite 2(1KO)-15(1)-4.
Dubois presionó con agresividad intentando desbordar con combinaciones de duros rectos, logrando en el tercer asalto conectar un izquierdazo que desequilibró a su rival hasta casi hacerle tocar la lona. No obstante, Masiokaite tiene buen encaje y estaba decidida a sobrevivir, por lo que, sumándose además algo de precipitación al ataque de la local y una inadecuada gestión de las distancia, Dubois no obtuvo el triunfo antes del límite pero sí una amplísima victoria a los puntos.
Este combate fue precedido por un cruce en el que el excampeón de Reino Unido del peso wélter Chris Jenkins 23(8KO)-4(1)-3 retornó a la senda del triunfo, tras su tropiezo ante Ekow Essuman, derrotando a los puntos (78-75) a Julius Indongo 23(12KO)-5(4).
El excampeón Indongo intentó moverse, mostrarse activo de manos y contragolpear, pero poco a poco Jenkins fue alcanzándole con ganchos zurdos arriba y abajo que le fueron llevando cada vez más a posiciones estáticas. Desde ellas el local pudo trabajar con sus golpes de poder en hook y directo para ir superando a un Indongo que, aun así, ofreció voluntariosa respuesta. Para el quinto asalto el namibio dio muestras claras de cansancio, pero Jenkins no supo sentenciar e Indongo tiró de veteranía y de un segundo aire para, con elusividad, jabs y contras, mantenerse en el combate hasta el final y capturar algún episodio.
La retransmisión de la velada de BOXXER de este sábado se abrió con un combate del peso pesado en el que Steve “Drago” Robinson 4(3KO)-1 sufrió contra pronóstico la primera derrota de su carrera contra el modesto Shane Gill 1(0KO)-1. La puntuación del juez-árbitro fue de 58-56.
Aunque teóricamente era el púgil en mejor estado de forma y con más aspiraciones, Robinson cometió graves errores defensivos, exponiéndose frontal y con el mentón alto al directo de mano adelantada y a los hooks de Gill, que pese a presentar un físico muy mejorable conectó golpes de poder nítidos que fueron los puños más significativos de la primera mitad. De ese modo, Gill paró el avance de su contrincante, lo desgastó y terminó haciéndose con la iniciativa, atacando con tenacidad con sus series de curvos hasta asegurarse la victoria a los puntos, que no se le escapó a pesar de flojear al final.
Fuera de la emisión de la cartelera principal quedaron dos enfrentamientos destacados del evento. Uno de ellos terminó con la victoria a los puntos (juez-árbitro 79-74) del peso pesado sueco Otto Wallin 23(14KO)-1 sobre el fogueado Kamil Sokolowski 11(4KO)-25(3)-2, mientras que el otro concluyó con el triunfo unánime (97-94, 96-94 y 96-95) del campeón de Inglaterra del peso wélter Samuel “True Sensation” Antwi 14(6KO)-1(1) sobre el invicto aspirante Conah Walker 10(3KO)-1-1.

After several postponements, at last the promising Caroline Dubois 1(0KO)-0, Olympic in Tokyo 2020, is already a professional boxer. Her debut came this Saturday in the support of the Eubank-Williams event, when she earned a win on points (60-54) over Lithuanian Vaida Masiokaite 2(1KO)-15(1)-4.
Dubois pressed aggressively trying to overwhelm with combinations of hard straight punches. In the third round Dubois landed a left hand that unbalanced her rival until she almost touched the canvas. However, Masiokaite has a good chin and was determined to survive, so, adding to it too some haste in the attacks of the local and an inadequate distance management, Dubois did not win by knockout but with a very wide decision.
This bout was preceded by a match in which the former British welterweight champion Chris Jenkins 23(8KO)-4(1)-3 returned to winning ways, after his defeat against Ekow Essuman, beating Julius Indongo 23(12KO)-5(4) on points (78-75).
Former champion Indongo tried to move, be active with his hands and counterpunch, but little by little Jenkins connected with left hooks up and down that gradually brought his rival to static positions. From them, the local was able to work with his power shots in hook and straigh right hands to beat Indongo who, even so, offered a willful response. By the fifth round, the Namibian showed clear signs of fatigue, but Jenkins was unable to close the fight and Indongo used his experience and a second wind to, with elusiveness, jabs and counters, stay in the match until the end and capture some rounds.
The televised segment of this Saturday BOXXER card opened with a heavyweight fight in which Steve “Drago” Robinson 4(3KO)-1 suffered the first loss of his career by upset against the modest Shane Gill 1(0KO)-1. The judge-referee’s score was 58-56.
Although theoretically he was the boxer in the best shape and with more aspirations, Robinson made serious defensive mistakes, exposing himself frontally and with his chin high to the jabs and hooks of Gill, who, despite of having a much improvable physique, landed power shots that were the most significant punches of the first half. In this way, Gill stopped the advance of his opponent, wore him down and ended up taking the initiative. Then attacked tenaciously with his combinations of hooks until he secured his victory on points, which did not escape him despite a weak finish.
Out of the broadcast of the main bill two interesting fights took place. One of them ended with the victory on points (79-74) of the Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin 23(14KO)-1 over the tough Kamil Sokolowski 11(4KO)-25(3)-2, while the another was the unanimous decision triumph (97-94, 96-94 and 96-95) of the English welterweight champion Samuel “True Sensation” Antwi 14(6KO)-1(1) against undefeated challenger Conah Walker 10(3KO)-1-1.
