Previa: Akhmadaliev defiende sus títulos unificados contra Ríos

Como parte del cartel de Matchroom Boxing de este sábado, encabezado por el enfrentamiento Jesse Rodríguez vs. Wisaksil Wangek, se producirá un campeonato mundial unificado WBA-IBF del peso supergallo entre el uzbeko Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev 10(7KO)-0 y el retador obligatorio de la Asociación, el estadounidense Ronny Ríos 33(16KO)-3(2). Esta pelea parece realmente interesante, tanto desde el punto de vista de las consecuencias como del estrictamente boxístico.
El vencedor de este enfrentamiento seguramente se verá inmerso en negociaciones para una pelea por el título indiscutido ante Stephen Fulton, campeón WBO-WBC que ha expresado públicamente su voluntad de encarar a continuación la pelea por todos los títulos de la categoría. Por lo tanto, el ganador del Akhmadaliev-Ríos simplemente estará emplazado al mayor combate posible en el peso supergallo actual, choque que podría abrirle la puerta incluso del top 10 libra por libra.
Por otro lado, es difícil que “MJ” y Ríos puedan ofrecer un mal choque. El uzbeko es un boxeador con un excelente equilibro técnica-potencia y realmente versátil, ofreciendo al ataque explosivas y variadas combinaciones y en defensa buenas esquivas y ágil juego de piernas. Por su parte, Ríos es un boxeador que esencialmente basa sus actuaciones en planteamientos agresivos y en la búsqueda de los golpes de poder, sosteniendo un buen ritmo ofensivo que habitualmente desemboca en recurrentes fuertes intercambios. De ese modo, el choque debería resultar entretenido y de buena calidad.
Dicho esto, el favorito para imponerse es Akhmadaliev. Aunque no se puede infravalorar ni un ápice al fuerte y tenaz Ríos, que ha mejorado notablemente con el paso de los años, y aunque no se deben descartar las opciones de un boxeador que es insistente y peligroso en sus ataques, Akhmadaliev tiene una gran ventaja en recursos técnicos y tácticos a pesar de contar con sólo diez peleas profesionales. Por otro lado, estilísticamente hablando, el choque parece desfavorable para Ríos, que fue batido en el sexto round por un Azat Hovhannisyan que tiene similitudes con Akhmadaliev, siendo ambos dos heterodoxos y activos púgiles técnicos con grandes capacidades ofensivas.
Por todo ello, aunque de plantearse una guerra en corta y media-corta Ríos seguramente podrá ser competitivo, la capacidad de desborde, la precisión y la habilidad de un Akhmadaliev más veloz y astuto podrían ser determinantes, cualidades que todavía podrían ser más importantes si el monarca logra evitar ser encerrado con sus desplazamientos, pelea con espacios y se anticipa al despliegue del retador.

Una revancha México vs. Puerto Rico
El restante campeonato mundial que se desarrollará en el evento de este sábado en el Tech Port Arena de San Antonio, Estados Unidos, será una revancha México vs. Puerto Rico entre el titular mundial WBC del peso mosca Julio César “El Rey” Martínez 18(14KO)-2 y el aspirante McWilliams Arroyo 21(16KO)-4.
A este enfrentamiento Martínez llegará tras haber sido derrotado con manifiesta claridad por Román “Chocolatito” González, por lo que muchos dudan respecto a las opciones de “El Rey”. Más aún enfrentándose a un Arroyo que en el brevísimo duelo precedente entre ambos (No Contest en el tercer round) logró derribarle.
De todos modos, el tropiezo de Martínez ante González debe ser visto con perspectiva, ya que lo padeció ante un futuro miembro del Salón de la Fama y un grande de todos los tiempos en las categorías inferiores, nivel al que ni siquiera se acerca Arroyo. Por otro lado, antes de que se produjese la detención por un corte en Arroyo por choque de cabezas, Martínez parecía haber encontrado la manera de causar estragos en su veterano rival, que fue tumbado dos veces. De hecho, muchos consideran que realmente el aspirante buscó una salida de una pelea que se había vuelto desfavorable.
Así, y siendo evidente que el muy combativo Martínez tiene un gran deseo de desquitarse de la amplia derrota ante “Chocolatito”, el mexicano será favorito para imponerse a través de sus andanadas de fuertes golpes de poder. Sin embargo, para lograr una victoria sólida y sin sustos, el campeón necesitará encontrar la manera de no sobreexponerse tanto al ataque, ya que de lo contrario podría volver a padecer dificultades que no le resultarían nada convenientes en este momento de su carrera.

As part of this Saturday’s Matchroom Boxing card, headlined by the fight Jesse Rodriguez vs. Wisaksil Wangek, there will be a unified WBA-IBF super bantamweight world championship between the Uzbek Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev 10(7KO)-0 and the Association’s mandatory challenger, the American Ronny Ríos 33(16KO)-3(2). This bout seems really interesting from the point of view of the consequences and from a strictly boxing perspective.
The winner of this clash will probably be immersed in negotiations for a fight for the undisputed title against Stephen Fulton, WBO-WBC champion who has publicly expressed his willingness to face a match for all the titles in the division next. Therefore, the winner of Akhmadaliev-Rios will simply be at reach of the biggest possible fight at super bantamweight, a bout that could open the door to the pound for pound top 10.
On the other hand, it is very improbable for “MJ” and Ríos to offer a bad fight this Saturday. The Uzbek is a boxer with an excellent technique-power balance and really versatile, offering explosive and varied combinations attacking and good dodging and agile footwork in defense. For his part, Ríos is a boxer who essentially bases his performances on aggressiveness and the search for power shots, maintaining a good offensive rhythm that usually leads to recurrent hard exchanges. That way, it should be a good and entertaining fight.
That said, the favorite to win is Akhmadaliev. Although the strong and tenacious Ríos, who has improved remarkably over the years, cannot be underestimated, and although the options of a boxer who is insistent and dangerous in his attacks should not be ruled out, Akhmadaliev has great advantage in skill and tactical resources despite having only ten professional fights. Also, stylistically speaking, the clash seems unfavorable for Ríos, who was beaten in the sixth round by Azat Hovhannisyan, who has some similarities with Akhmadaliev, both being two unorthodox and active technical fighters with great offensive capabilities.
For all these reasons, although in a close and mid-close range war Ríos would surely be competitive, the ability to overwhelm, the precision and the skill of a faster and more astute Akhmadaliev could be decisive, qualities that could be even more important if the monarch manages to avoid being cornered with his movements, boxes with distance and attacks before the challenger deploys his charges.
