El campeón mundial minimosca Hiroto Kyoguchi “lesionado”, Esteban Bermúdez peleará contra Carlos Cañizales

Hace mucho tiempo que dejó de ser ni siquiera mínimamente normal lo que está sucediendo con el campeonato mundial WBA del peso minimosca entre Hiroto Kyoguchi y Esteban Bermúdez. Esta pelea fue ordenada en junio de 2021 y desde entonces han habido tantas idas y venidas, aplazamientos de las negociaciones y de las fechas tentativas del combate que parece evidente que Matchroom Boxing, Kyoguchi o ambos no quieren disputar este duelo. En este sentido, hay que recordar que cuando llegó inicialmente la orden de defensa obligatoria, el promotor Eddie Hearn incluso la ignoró por completo de forma deliberada e intentó pactar un choque alternativo.
Finalmente, después de siete meses de oscilaciones que han supuesto un estancamiento total del cinturón mundial y tras la última cancelación del choque, que estaba programado para este mes en México, ahora Kyoguchi dice no estar recuperado de una supuesta lesión. Así, a la WBA, que ha querido darle el beneficio de la duda al monarca, no le ha quedado más remedio que aplazar otra subasta más y ordenar un duelo alternativo. En él, Bermúdez expondrá su cinturón de “titular regular” contra el anterior poseedor de dicho cetro, el venezolano Carlos Cañizales, a quien derrotó contra pronóstico en mayo del pasado año.
El ganador de este duelo será nuevamente el retador obligatorio contra el que Kyoguchi tendrá que enfrentarse seguidamente, si bien posiblemente esa defensa ya no llegue hasta la segunda mitad de la temporada, de modo que se habrá aplazado seguramente durante todo un año. Así, una vez más, los esfuerzos de la Asociación para suprimir sus subcampeones (una vez que por fin se ha decidido a hacerlo) se han encontrado con la resistencia de los grandes promotores, que digan lo que digan públicamente sobre la justicia deportiva lo único que quieren es que los organismos bailen al ritmo que ellos les marcan.

What is happening with the WBA light flyweight world championship between Hiroto Kyoguchi and Esteban Bermúdez has long ceased to be even minimally normal. This fight was ordered in June 2021 and since then there has been so much back and forth, postponements of negotiations and tentative fight dates that it seems clear that Matchroom Boxing, Kyoguchi or both do not want this matchup. In this sense, it must be remembered that when the mandatory defense was ordered promoter Eddie Hearn even deliberately ignored it and tried to move forward with an alternative bout.
Finally, after seven months of oscillations that have led to a total stagnation of the world belt and after the last cancellation of the bout, which was scheduled for this month in Mexico, now Kyoguchi says he is not recovered from an alleged injury. Thus, the WBA, which has wanted to give the monarch the benefit of the doubt, has had no choice but to postpone another purse bid and order an alternative duel. In it, Bermúdez will expose his «regular title» belt against the previous holder of that title, the Venezuelan Carlos Cañizales, whom he defeated in an upset in May of last year.
The winner of this duel will once again be the mandatory challenger that Kyoguchi will have to face next, although that defense may not come until the second half of the season, so it will be probably postponed for a whole year. Thus, once again, the Association’s efforts to suppress its many belts have met with resistance from the big promoters, who talk publicly about sports justice but that only desire that the sanctioning bodies to do what they want.
