Los mejores combates de la semana (30-2/7-8/2025)

Aunque no es lo más habitual precisamente, el miércoles tendrá lugar la mejor velada de la semana. Y es que en el Yokohama Buntai de Yokohama, Japón, emitido por DAZN, se producirán ni más ni menos que tres campeonatos mundiales, uno de ellos protagonizado por el top 10 libra por libra Kenshiro Teraji. Este monarca mundial WBC-WBA del peso minimosca y mejor boxeador de la división expondrá su corona ante un muy difícil retador como el sólido y versátil estadounidense Ricardo “El Niño” Sandoval, que desde 2016 ha sumado 22 triunfos (algunos de mucho mérito) y una única derrota (por cuestionable decisión mayoritaria).
Otro de los mundiales será por la corona WBA del peso gallo entre el titular estadounidense Antonio Vargas, que carece de experiencia de calidad y que afronta de lejos el mayor reto de su carrera, y el excampeón mundial japonés Daigo Higa, que ha perdido el rendimiento de cuando comenzó su reinado en el peso mosca pero que sigue siendo un peligroso, fuerte y capaz oponente. El restante campeonato tendrá en juego el cinturón WBA del peso minimosca ostentado por el dominicano Erick Rosa, que afrontará su combate más difícil desde su victoria por robo ante Vic Saludar (2021) midiéndose al pegador japonés Kyosuke Takami, prometedor púgil que de momento ha arrollado a su oposición como profesional.
También el miércoles, en el Brisbane Powerhouse de New Farm, Australia, el peso crucero Floyd Masson, 14º IBF, peleará contra el neozelandés John Parker en un evento emitido por FOX Australia.
Viernes 1 de agosto
En un viernes casi totalmente falto de peleas relevantes, parte de un fin de semana muy flojo, en El Poliedro de Caracas, Venezuela, televisado por ESPN Knockout, se producirá otro campeonato mundial del peso minimosca, en concreto por el cinturón WBC. Este será expuesto por el tailandés Panya Pradabsri ante el local Carlos Cañizales en una revancha del controvertido choque que sostuvieron en diciembre en Tailandia y que venció Pradabsri con una muy cuestionada decisión mayoritaria.
Sábado 2 de agosto
El mayor encuentro del sábado será el estelar de una velada de Golden Boy desde el Credit Union 1 Arena de Chicago, Estados Unidos, emitida por DAZN. En este duelo se verán las caras el 4º WBA del peso superligero Kenneth Sims Jr. y el peleador que le sigue en la lista, Óscar Duarte. Más allá de las consecuencias que debería tener en la lucha por el acceso a una pelea titular, y dejando de lado que quizás ninguno de los dos tenga el nivel para combatir con la élite, este podría ser un entretenido y disputado choque de estilos que nos ayude a sobrellevar un tanto la falta de combates de relieve de este fin de semana.
En el respaldo, dos boxeadores que han dejado muy atrás su mejor momento y que luchan por evitar el retiro (aunque debería ser el camino que deberían seguir ambos) como Joseph “JoJo” Díaz y Regis Prograis pelearán en el peso superligero por intentar acceder a una nueva pelea importante, en la que seguramente cualquiera de los dos será derrotado de forma clara.
Por lo demás, el sábado se producirán estos otros choques:
-En la Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta de Málaga, España, el peso wélter local Samuel Molina (púgil con un positivo en dopaje en su carrera) expondrá su cinturón de Europa ante el invicto belga Anas Messaoudi. En el semifondo, el español Rafael Acosta y el italiano Giuseppe Carafa combatirán por colocarse a las puertas del campeonato de Europa del peso ligero.
-En el Hotel Tamanaco de Caracas, Venezuela, emitido por TNT Sports y Canal Space, el 8º WBA del peso minimosca Rodrigo Ramírez se enfrentará al joven e imbatido mexicano Aarón de la Cruz en un choque importante para acercarse a la disputa de un mundial.
-En el Korakuen Hall de Tokio, Japón, el pegador, 8º WBA y 11º WBC del peso superpluma, Yamato Hata buscará su sexto knockout consecutivo ante su compatriota Shigetoshi Kotari, estando el cinturón OPBF (cetro de carácter continental) en juego.
-En el Thunder Studios de Long Beach, Estados Unidos, el excampeón mundial Jerwin Ancajas buscará seguir recuperando moral, alejarse del KO sufrido ante Takuma Inoue y prepararse para una nueva pelea significativa peleando contra el uruguayo Rubén Darío Casero.

Although it’s not exactly the most common, Wednesday will feature the best card of the week. At the Yokohama Buntai in Yokohama, Japan, broadcast by DAZN, three world championships will take place, one of them featuring pound-for-pound top 10 Kenshiro Teraji. This WBC-WBA light flyweight world champion and best boxer in the division will defend his crown against a very tough challenger in the solid and versatile American Ricardo “El Niño” Sandoval, who since 2016 has racked up 22 wins (some of great merit) and only one loss (by questionable majority decision).
Another of the world title fights will be for the WBA bantamweight crown between the American titleholder Antonio Vargas, who lacks quality experience and is facing by far the biggest challenge of his career, and Japanese former world champion Daigo Higa, who no longer performs at the level he did when he began his reign at flyweight, but remains a dangerous, strong, and capable opponent. The remaining championship will have the WBA light flyweight belt held by Dominican Erick Rosa at stake. Rosa will face his toughest bout since his robbery win over Vic Saludar (2021) against Japanese puncher Kyosuke Takami, a promising fighter who has so far steamrolled his professional opposition.
Also on Wednesday, at the Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm, Australia, cruiserweight Floyd Masson, ranked 14th by the IBF, will fight New Zealander John Parker in an event broadcast by FOX Australia.
Friday, August 1
On a Friday almost completely lacking in relevant fights, and part of a very weak weekend, another light flyweight world championship will take place at El Poliedro in Caracas, Venezuela, televised by ESPN Knockout. This title bout will have the WBC belt at stake, which will be defended by Thai Panya Pradabsri against local Carlos Cañizales in a rematch of the controversial clash they had in December in Thailand, which Pradabsri won by a highly questionable majority decision.
Saturday, August 2
The biggest bout on Saturday will be the main event of a Golden Boy card from the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago, United States, broadcast by DAZN. In this fight, 4th-ranked WBA super lightweight Kenneth Sims Jr. will face the fighter right behind him on the list, Óscar Duarte. Beyond the implications this should have in the race for a title shot, and setting aside that perhaps neither has the level to fight the elite, this could be an entertaining and competitive clash of styles that helps us get through the lack of high-profile fights this weekend.
On the undercard, two boxers who are well past their prime and fighting to avoid retirement (although that should be the path both follow), Joseph “JoJo” Díaz and Regis Prograis, will battle at super lightweight in an attempt to earn another significant fight, in which either will likely be clearly defeated.
Otherwise, Saturday will feature these other bouts:
-In the Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta in Málaga, Spain, local welterweight Samuel Molina (a boxer who failed a drug test in his career) will defend his European belt against undefeated Belgian Anas Messaoudi. In the co-main event, Spaniard Rafael Acosta and Italian Giuseppe Carafa will fight to move to the doorstep of the European lightweight championship.
-At the Hotel Tamanaco in Caracas, Venezuela, broadcast by TNT Sports and Canal Space, 8th-ranked WBA light flyweight Rodrigo Ramírez will face young and unbeaten Mexican Aarón de la Cruz in an important clash to advance toward a world title shot.
-At the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, puncher Yamato Hata, ranked 8th WBA and 11th WBC at super featherweight, will seek his sixth consecutive knockout against compatriot Shigetoshi Kotari, with the OPBF belt (a continental title) at stake.
-At Thunder Studios in Long Beach, United States, former world champion Jerwin Ancajas will look to continue rebuilding confidence, keep moving past the KO suffered against Takuma Inoue, and prepare for another significant fight by facing Uruguayan Rubén Darío Casero.
