Eros Seghetti defendió su cinturón de Italia semipesado con KOT sobre Lepei

Un año después de coronarse campeón de Italia del peso semipesado venciendo por KOT a Luca Spadaccini, anoche Eros Seghetti 12(4KO)-1-1 volvió a subirse al ring en la Piazza del Popolo de Ascoli Piceno, su ciudad natal y de residencia, para afrontar su primera defensa. Esta finalmente no fue contra su rival original Aleksander Ramo, sino contra un sustituto tardío, el veterano excampeón de Italia Dragan Lepei 23(10KO)-9(6)-2, a quien batió por KOT en el quinto episodio.
Durante los dos primeros asaltos, en una pelea con bajo ritmo, Seghetti, que contaba con ventaja en altura y técnica, impuso su jab con calma desde la distancia larga ante un Lepei que tenía muchos problemas para acortar los espacios y lanzar sus manos. De todos modos, el factor determinante en la pugna fue la pérdida de encaje de Lepei. Es cierto que nunca fue un boxeador caracterizado por un buen encaje, pero parece haber ido a peor, hasta el punto de que es necesario que se plantee la retirada. Así, en el tercer asalto, Seghetti lo dejó seriamente tocado con un simple jab, si bien Lepei respondió valientemente y ambos ofrecieron un buen round con ofensivas y controfensivas con combinaciones de ganchos.
Los últimos éxitos de Lepei llegaron en el cuarto episodio, cuando conectó algunos curvos aislados ante un Seghetti que es mucho menos eficaz en la distancia corta, aunque en el siguiente asalto su mermado encaje volvió a resultar crucial: un nuevo jab del campeón puso esta vez directamente en la lona a Lepei, que se levantó pero que poco después fue aparatosamente derribado por un uno-dos. En ese momento el árbitro paró la contienda.
Ahora es de esperar que se reprograme el Seghetti-Ramo, un enfrentamiento en el que el titular, que sólo ha sido derrotado como profesional por Karol Itauma, se mediría a un boxeador mucho menos castigado que Lepei, además de invicto, si bien con una preocupante falta de experiencia de calidad.

A year after becoming the Italian light heavyweight champion by knocking out Luca Spadaccini, last night Eros Seghetti 12(4KO)-1-1 returned to the ring at the Piazza del Popolo in Ascoli Piceno—his hometown—for his first title defense. This was ultimately not against his original opponent Aleksander Ramo, but against a late replacement, the veteran and former Italian champion Dragan Lepei 23(10KO)-9(6)-2, whom he defeated by fifth-round TKO.
During the first two rounds, in a slow-paced fight, Seghetti—who held advantages in height and technique—calmly controlled the action with his jab from long range, while Lepei struggled to close the distance and mount any offense. Even so, the decisive factor in the bout was Lepei’s deteriorating punch resistance. He was never known for a strong chin, but it seems to have worsened to the point where retirement should be seriously considered: in the third round, Seghetti rocked him with a simple jab. However, Lepei responded bravely, and both fighters exchanged offense and counteroffense with hook combinations in an entertaining round.
Lepei’s last moments of success came in the fourth, when he landed some isolated hooks against Seghetti, who is notably less effective at close range. Nevertheless, in the following round, his weakened chin again proved decisive, as another jab from the champion dropped Lepei directly to the canvas. He got up, but moments later was violently knocked down by a one-two combination. At that point, the referee stopped the fight.
Now the Seghetti-Ramo clash is expected to be rescheduled—a matchup in which the champion, whose only professional loss came against Karol Itauma, would face an undefeated and far less worn opponent than Lepei, although one worryingly lacking in quality experience.
