El mayor evento del viernes será el que tendrá lugar en el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York, Estados Unidos, emitido por Netflix. Algunos medios están afirmando, de forma totalmente equivocada, que esta es la primera velada exclusivamente femenina de la historia, si bien en Japón se producen con frecuencia eventos compuestos únicamente por peleas de boxeo femenino desde hace ya bastantes años. Sea como sea, la cartelera de este viernes contará, además de con varios campeonatos mundiales, con la mayor pelea posible dentro del boxeo femenino actual.
Y es que dos top libra por libra como la irlandesa Katie Taylor y la puertorriqueña Amanda Serrano, después de dos espectaculares, emocionantes y contendidos choques, completarán una trilogía combatiendo por la corona de campeona indiscutida del peso superligero. En cualquier caso, aunque debería ser nuevamente un muy buen enfrentamiento, teniendo en cuenta la gran controversia de los dos precedentes choques ganados por Taylor (y las otras veces que se la ha favorecido vergonzosamente en las tarjetas), si no es que Serrano logra dañar de forma crucial a su oponente, parece difícil que la puertorriqueña pueda lograr una decisión ante esta rival a no ser que los grandes poderes en la sombra del boxeo quieran poner las bases para un cuarto combate entre ambas.
En la velada se producirán otros dos enfrentamientos por coronas indiscutidas. En uno de ellos se medirán dos boxeadoras mediocres como la australiana Cherneka Johnson y la estadounidense Shurreta Metcalf en un choque que muestra el bajo nivel del peso gallo femenino y el afán de la élite de los despachos por coronar campeonas indiscutidas a toda costa (dos de los cintos en juego están vacantes). Johnson ha avanzado venciendo a rivales a medida, a púgiles muy veteranas y ha sufrido derrotas (o críticas dificultades) en sus únicas pugnas exigentes, mientras que Metcalf derrotó a jornaleras de aún nivel más bajo antes de entrar, tras un positivo en control antidopaje, en la mejor racha de su carrera, logrando sus únicas tres victorias destacables en lo que muchos consideran tres robos.
En el otro participará otra estadounidense que ha dado positivo en control antidopaje como la campeona indiscutida del peso superligero Alycia Baumgardner, a la que se le permitió mantener sus cinturones pese a dar positivo por esteroides como la mesterolona y metenolona (una de las sustancias predilectas de las mujeres deportistas tramposas por poder evitar con ella padecer virilización de aspecto). Dicho esto, y teniendo en cuenta que además muchos consideran que fue favorecida en la pelea más importante de su carrera, no cabe duda de que tiene el apoyo de los despachos y que su retadora, la española Jennifer Miranda, que no posee experiencia de calidad, que es bastante mayor que ella y que sólo cuenta con un 8% de knockouts, lo tendrá sumamente difícil para poder dar la sorpresa.
En el cartel también se producirá una triple unificación de coronas del peso supergallo entre la británica Ellie Scotney y la mexicana Yamileth Mercado, que conserva su cinturón WBC pese a no haber combatido desde hace 13 meses; una unificación IBF-WBO del peso supermedio entre la estadounidense Shadasia Green y la británica Savannah Marshall, a la cual la “estricta” IBF no le ha arrebatado su título ¡pese a no combatir desde hace dos años!; y una pugna del peso superligero en la que la exmonarca indiscutida británica Chantelle Cameron se enfrentará a la canadiense Jessica Camara.
Por lo demás, el viernes sólo se puede mencionar el debut profesional del plata mundial amateur kazajo Dulat Bekbauov ante el competente congoleño Marios Matamba, pelea que se producirá en el Baluan Sholak Sports Palace de Almaty, Kazajistán.
Sábado 12 de julio
Por lo que se refiere al sábado, la mayor velada se desarrollará en el Louis Armstrong Stadium de Nueva York, Estados Unidos, emitida por DAZN, y contará con dos campeonatos mundiales. Uno de ellos será un choque de estilos entre el elusivo estadounidense Shakur Stevenson y el pegador mexicano William Zepeda por la corona WBC del peso ligero que posee el primero. Quizás muchos consideren que podría ser una oportunidad para que un boxeador que huye de los intercambios como Stevenson pueda verse presionado por un púgil persistente, potente y valiente. Pero teniendo en cuenta las dificultades que padeció Zepeda ante Farmer, que es menos grande, veloz, hábil, astuto, joven y preciso que Stevenson, parece que el campeón debería poder controlar los espacios y los rounds a la vez que conecta claras contras.
En el otro mundial, por el título WBC del peso superligero, participará otro boxeador más con un positivo en control antidopaje como el dominicano Alberto Puello, quien por cierto también se vio favorecido en los tres mayores combates de su carrera, que ganó con controvertidas decisiones. En esta ocasión Puello se medirá al excampeón mundial puertorriqueño Subriel Matías, boxeador con 100% de triunfos antes del límite que quizás pueda usar su pegada para hacer justifica deportiva.
En principio, si no hay un cambio final, ninguna de las citadas peleas será la estelar del cartel, ya que en un inicio se afirmó que lo sería la eliminatoria del peso supermedio entre Hamzah Sheeraz y Edgar Berlanga, ocupando el combate esta posición en la velada únicamente debido a que a Turki Alalshikh le gusta dar exposición (además de proteger e impulsar) a los boxeadores musulmanes como Sheeraz. Por otro lado, se producirá un un muy buen combate del peso semipesado en el que el cubano David Morrell, que llega de enfrentarse a David Benavídez, será una prueba de fuego para el bronce olímpico Imam Khataev.
Antes de que comience la citada velada, ProBox ofrecerá a través de YouTube un evento desde el Save Mart Arena de Fresno, Estados Unidos. El combate estelar iba a ser entre Lester Martínez y Pierre Hubert Dibombe, pero la baja del primero ha conllevado un cambio: el nuevo encuentro principal será en el peso superwélter entre el mexicano Vladimir Hernández, 15º WBC más conocido por sus victorias contra pronóstico ante Julian Williams y Lorenzo Simpson, y el argentino Francisco Daniel Verón, que empató ante Jahi Tucker y derrotó al invicto ruso Timur Kerefov entre otras meritorias actuaciones.
Además, la velada contará con la eliminatoria WBC del peso minimosca entre el mexicano Erick Badillo y el nicaragüense Gerardo Zapata y con la tercera pelea a diez asaltos del peso superpluma mongol, dos veces olímpico, Tsendbaatar Erdenebat contra el estadounidense Humberto Galindo, que llega de empatar ante el exretador mundial Abraham Nova.
El sábado se producirán también estos otros combates:
-En el DIY Kitchens Stadium de Wakefield, Reino Unido, emitido por YouTube, los peso superwélter Dom Hunt y James Moorcroft cerrarán una trilogía tras dos empates.
-En Culiacán, México, emitido por TV Azteca, el pegador del peso superpluma Jonathan Javier Fierro se enfrentará a su invicto compatriota Leobardo Quintana, y el enrachado peso gallo José Calderón al siempre exigente Gohan Rodríguez.
-En el County Coliseum de El Paso, Estados Unidos, el plata nacional estadounidense y ganador de los Golden Gloves Abraham René Pérez se medirá al mexicano Ángel Geovanny Meza, que de momento ha ofrecido siempre duros tests a todos los prospectos a los que se ha medido.

Friday, July 11
The biggest event on Friday will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, USA, broadcast on Netflix. Some media outlets are mistakenly claiming this is the first-ever all-female boxing event, even though Japan has frequently hosted shows comprised solely of women’s matches for many years now. Be that as it may, this Friday’s card will feature, in addition to several world championships, the biggest possible fight in current women’s boxing.
Two pound-for-pound fighters, Ireland’s Katie Taylor and Puerto Rico’s Amanda Serrano, will complete a trilogy after two spectacular, exciting, and contested clashes, fighting for the undisputed super lightweight championship. In any case, while it should once again be a very good matchup, considering the great controversy of the two previous bouts won by Taylor (and the other times she has been shamefully favored on the scorecards), unless Serrano manages to crucially hurt her opponent, it seems difficult for the Puerto Rican to get a decision against this rival unless the powers that be in boxing want to lay the groundwork for a fourth fight between them.
The evening will also feature two other undisputed title fights. One will pit two mediocre fighters, Australia’s Cherneka Johnson and America’s Shurreta Metcalf, in a clash that highlights the low level of women’s bantamweight and the eagerness of the higher-ups in boxing to crown undisputed champions at all costs (two of the belts at stake are vacant). Johnson has advanced by defeating tailor-made opponents and very veteran fighters, and has suffered losses (or critical difficulties) in her only challenging bouts, while Metcalf defeated even lower-level journeymen before entering, after failing a doping test, the best streak of her career, achieving her only three notable victories in what many consider three robberies.
The other will feature another American boxer who has tested positive for doping, undisputed super lightweight champion Alycia Baumgardner, who was allowed to keep her belts despite testing positive for steroids like mesterolone and metenolone (one of the favorite substances for cheating female athletes to avoid virilization). That said, and considering that many also believe she was favored in the most important fight of her career, there is no doubt that she has the support of those in power and that her challenger, Spain’s Jennifer Miranda, who lacks quality experience, is considerably older than her, and only has an 8% knockout ratio, will have an extremely difficult time pulling off an upset.
The card will also feature a triple super bantamweight title unification between Britain’s Ellie Scotney and Mexico’s Yamileth Mercado, who retains her WBC belt despite not having fought for 13 months; an IBF-WBO super middleweight unification between America’s Shadasia Green and Britain’s Savannah Marshall, whom the «strict» IBF has not stripped of her title despite not fighting for two years!; and a super lightweight bout in which former undisputed titlist Chantelle Cameron will face Canadian Jessica Camara.
Otherwise, on Friday, only the professional debut of Kazakh world silver medalist Dulat Bekbauov against the competent Congolese Marios Matamba can be mentioned. The fight that will take place at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Saturday, July 12
As for Saturday, the biggest event will take place at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City, USA, broadcast on DAZN PPV, and will feature two world championships. One will be a clash of styles between the elusive American Shakur Stevenson and the hard-hitting Mexican William Zepeda for the WBC lightweight title held by the former. Perhaps many will consider this an opportunity for a boxer who avoids exchanges like Stevenson to be pressured by a persistent, powerful, and brave fighter. But considering the difficulties Zepeda faced against Farmer, who is less big, fast, skilled, cunning, young, and precise than Stevenson, it seems the champion should be able to control distance and rounds while landing clear counters.
The other world title fight, for the WBC super lightweight belt, will feature another boxer with a positive doping test, the Dominican Alberto Puello, who, by the way, was also favored in the three biggest fights of his career, which he won by controversial decisions. On this occasion, Puello will face former Puerto Rican world champion Subriel Matías, a boxer who has obtained all his victories by stoppage and who, perhaps, can use his punching power to deliver justice.
In principle, if there is no last-minute change, none of the aforementioned fights will be the main event, as it was initially stated that the super middleweight eliminator between Hamzah Sheeraz and Edgar Berlanga would be the headliner. The fight occupies this position on the card solely because Turki Alalshikh likes to give exposure (as well as protect and boost) Muslim boxers like Sheeraz. On the other hand, there will be a very good light heavyweight bout in which Cuba’s David Morrell, who is coming off a fight against David Benavídez, will be a crucial test for Olympic bronze medalist Imam Khataev.
Before the aforementioned event begins, ProBox will offer an event via YouTube from the Save Mart Arena in Fresno, USA. The main event was supposed to be between Lester Martínez and Pierre Hubert Dibombe, but the former’s withdrawal has led to a change: the new main event will be at super welterweight between Mexican Vladimir Hernández, ranked 15th in the WBC and best known for his upset victories over Julian Williams and Lorenzo Simpson, and Argentina’s Francisco Daniel Verón, who fought to a draw with Jahi Tucker and defeated unbeaten Russian Timur Kerefov, among other meritorious performances.
Additionally, the card will feature the WBC light flyweight eliminator between Mexico’s Erick Badillo and Nicaragua’s Gerardo Zapata, and the third ten-round fight for Mongolian (two-time Olympian) super featherweight, Tsendbaatar Erdenebat, against American Humberto Galindo, who is coming off a draw in a bout with former world challenger Abraham Nova.
