Stefano Ramundo venció a Samy Khellas por decisión en igualado combate

Después de padecer una derrota decisiva en el ámbito continental el año pasado, el excampeón de Italia del peso superligero Stefano Ramundo 17(3KO)-2(1) afrontó el viernes una pelea decisiva para recuperar impulso y aspiraciones internacionales enfrentándose en Grosseto, Italia, al francés Samy Khellas 7(1KO)-7(1)-4. Este púgil de récord muy engañoso representaba un serio reto para Ramundo, ya que Khellas es un zurdo, con ventaja en altura y alcance, que ha padecido varios resultados controvertidos en contra y que venía en la mejor racha de su carrera. Sin embargo, aunque Khellas cumplió con lo esperado y generó trabajo al boxeador local, Ramundo se hizo con un justo triunfo por decisión unánime.
Las puntuaciones de los jueces fueron 97-93, 97-93 y 96-94, siendo la puntuación de Bastión Boxeo 96-94 también a favor de Ramundo.
El enfrentamiento se desarrolló notablemente igualado durante la primera mitad, con ambos boxeadores lanzando sus puños desde la distancia media con considerable frecuencia. Inicialmente pareció que la combinación directo diestro-gancho zurdo abajo de Ramundo podría darle resultados cruciales, pero posteriormente Khellas fue insistiendo cada vez más con sus largos rectos, y algún uppercut por dentro, para detener la progresión de su contrincante. El choque estaba en un momento crítico para el devenir de la pugna, siendo entonces Ramundo quien logró marcar la diferencia en un quinto round en el que dañó al visitante con una derecha recta y le castigó con varios uppercuts zurdos.
Ramundo supo aprovechar este éxito para generar un punto de inflexión y capturar asaltos posteriores, que resultaron trascendentales una vez que Khellas reaccionó y tomó la iniciativa. Aprovechando un bajón en el rendimiento del italiano, que optó por caminar cada vez más el ring, Khellas presionó y aumentó su cadencia de golpes reduciendo la ventaja en las tarjetas de su contrincante, si bien Ramundo todavía pudo tirar de astucia y eficacia para anotarse el último asalto y evitar el empate en una de las tarjetas de los jueces.
La captura de un título menor WBC probablemente le dé a Ramundo el acceso al top 40 de dicho organismo, aunque parece que debería volver a centrarse en la ruta al título europeo, quizás intentando pelear por el título EBU Silver ante su compatriota Armando Casamonica, quien igualmente sería favorito para derrotarlo.

After suffering a decisive loss at the continental level last year, former Italian super lightweight champion Stefano Ramundo 17(3KO)-2(1) stepped into the ring on Friday for a pivotal bout to regain momentum and international ambitions: he faced French boxer Samy Khellas 7(1KO)-7(1)-4 in Grosseto, Italy. Though Khellas’s record might be very misleading, he posed a serious threat to Ramundo—being a tall southpaw with longer reach, who has suffered several controversial decisions against him and was coming off the best run of his career. Despite Khellas meeting expectations and testing the local fighter, Ramundo earned a well-deserved unanimous decision victory.
The judges scored the bout 97–93, 97–93, and 96–94, with Bastion Boxing’s own scorecard reading 96–94 in favor of Ramundo as well.
The match was highly competitive through the first half, with both fighters exchanging punches at mid-range with notable frequency. Early on, Ramundo’s right cross–left hook to the body combo seemed promising, but Khellas responded persistently with long straight punches, and occasional uppercuts on the inside, to stall his opponent’s momentum. The fight reached a turning point in the fifth round, where Ramundo hurt the visitor with a straight right, following up with several left uppercuts.
Ramundo leveraged that success to swing the momentum in his favor, securing key rounds that proved crucial once Khellas rallied and took the initiative. As the Italian’s performance faded and he spent more time moving around the ring, Khellas pressed the pace and increased his punch output, narrowing the gap on the scorecards. Still, Ramundo used his savvy and precision to edge the final round and avoid a draw on one of the judges’ cards.
Capturing a minor WBC title with this win will likely place Ramundo within the organization’s top 40 rankings, though it seems he may need to refocus on the European title path—possibly aiming for the EBU Silver belt against his compatriot Armando Casamonica, who would, in any case, be favored to beat him.
