El peso pesado Brandon Moore venció por decisión técnica al invicto Wright

Un año después de sufrir su primera derrota ante Richard Torrez Jr., el peso pesado estadounidense Brandon Moore 18(10KO)-1, en racha de tres triunfos, encaró anoche quizás el segundo reto más importante de su carrera ante el imbatido Stanley Wright 14(11KO)-1, que venía de romper el récord invicto de Jeremiah Milton. Pues bien, Moore salió de este encuentro con el brazo en alto, si bien lo hizo por decisión técnica y puntuaciones de 50-44, 50-44 y 49-45. La puntuación de Bastión Boxeo fue 49-45.
Caminando rápido y lanzando jabs constantemente, Moore aprovechó su gran ventaja en altura y alcance para dificultar mucho las entradas de su oponente, que le perseguía recibiendo, además de directos de mano adelantada, alguna eventual derecha o gancho zurdo. Además de su desventaja en estatura, Wright no estaba en buena forma, por lo que dio las primeras muestras de cansancio rápidamente, que se vieron aumentadas por los agarres que a menudo se producían cuando intentaba entrar en corta y por un knockdown padecido tras una combinación de directos de derecha y ganchos zurdos en los que sólo impactaron los golpes rectos.
El combate estaba encaminado a una clara victoria de Moore, pero en el tercer round un cabezazo considerado involuntario por el árbitro provocó un corte en el párpado derecho del púgil, que siguió imponiendo su boxeo precedente hasta que en el quinto episodio, tras recibir algunos ganchos, se le revisó el ojo y se consideró que no podía continuar. De ese modo, se hizo con un triunfo por decisión técnica que le servirá quizás para entrar en el ranking IBF (por estar en juego un título menor del organismo) pero con el cual estuvo muy lejos de mostrar que podría llegar a ser un gran reto para los púgiles de la cumbre de la división.

One year after suffering his first loss to Richard Torrez Jr., American heavyweight Brandon Moore 18(10KO)-1, on a three-fight winning streak, faced perhaps the second biggest challenge of his career against undefeated Stanley Wright 14(11KO)-1, who was coming off a win over unbeaten Jeremiah Milton. Well, Moore won this important fight for him, albeit by technical decision. The scores were 50-44, 50-44, and 49-45. Bastion Boxing scored the fight 49-45.
Walking quickly and constantly jabbing, Moore took advantage of his height and reach to make it very difficult for his opponent to approach him, and he also connected, along his lead hands, occasional straight rights or left hooks. In addition to being shorter, Wright was not in good shape, so he quickly showed signs of fatigue, which augmented by the frequent clinches that occurred when he tried to get close and by a knockdown after a combination of right hands and left hooks in which only the straight punches landed.
The fight was headed to a clear victory for Moore, but in the third round, a headbutt ruled unintentional by the referee caused a cut in the fighter’s right eyelid. Despite this, he continued to impose his boxing until the fifth round, when, after receiving some hooks, his eye was examined and he was deemed unable to continue. Therefore, he earned a technical decision victory that may help him enter the IBF ranking (a minor IBF title was at stake), but with which he failed to show that he could be a great challenge for the fighters at the division’s top.
