Melikuziev logró cuestionable triunfo con mala táctica en eliminatoria contra Fulghum

Normalmente, en un combate igualado en Estados Unidos en el que uno de los dos boxeadores es estadounidense, los jueces le dan el beneficio de la duda al local, más aún si ambos son miembros de la misma promotora. Sin embargo, en la eliminatoria WBA del peso supermedio entre el uzbeko Bektemir Melikuziev 16(10KO)-1(1) y el estadounidense Darius “DFG” Fulghum 14(12KO)-1, sorprendentemente los tres jueces le dieron el triunfo unánime a “Bek”, quien recordemos que fue atrapado en un test antidopaje (diuréticos) años atrás. Las tres cartulinas fueron de 114-112, mientras que Bastión Boxeo puntuó el combate 113-113.
Queriendo evitar que le pasase lo mismo que en el primer combate ante Rosado, “Bully” Melikuziev decidió no presionar a su oponente, sino que se mantuvo en el centro del ring y en la distancia media y media-larga buscando la ocasión para conectar golpes de poder. Sin embargo, como sigue sin mejorar su defensa y sigue llevando las manos absurdamente bajas, durante la primera mitad el zurdo Melikuziev perdió rounds por esta decisión táctica, ya que Fulghum aprovechó su ventaja en alcance, velocidad y técnica para llegar con jabs, ganchos de izquierda y combinaciones de hook y uppercut y así marcar la diferencia en rounds igualados. El error de Melikuziev resultó todavía más evidente cuando en el tercer round se decidió a presionar contra las cuerdas a su contrincante y tuvo claros éxitos.
No obstante, Melikuziev siguió insistiendo en permanecer en el centro del ring sin lanzar ofensivas sostenidas, apoyándose sólo en esporádicos ataques que a menudo acababan en un agarre, motivo por el cual en el séptimo asalto perdió un punto por insistencia en los clinches. De todos modos, en la segunda mitad, Fulghum se dejó arrastrar al caos que creaban las entradas y salidas de Melikuziev y perdió solidez en su boxeo, recibiendo nítidos golpes de poder en directo de izquierda y hooks al cuerpo, si bien la pelea todavía se mantuvo igualada en lineas generales y en el noveno asalto “DFG” incluso sacudió a su rival.
Aun así, Melikuziev, pese a padecer un evidente cansancio, tuvo más éxitos con sus heterodoxos ataques, en el décimo asalto movió a su contrincante y en el duodécimo, cuando condujo a las cuerdas a su oponente, se anotó un knockdown con un cruzado de izquierda que certificó su victoria. Con ella, teóricamente, Melikuziev se convierte en otro de los retadores oficiales de Canelo Álvarez, si bien habiendo ganado esa posición por la WBA, no sería descartable que se le condujese próximamente a un combate por uno de sus patéticos títulos secundarios.

Normally, in a close fight in the USA where one of the two boxers is American, the judges give the local fighter the benefit of the doubt, even more so if both are members of the same promotional company. However, in the WBA super middleweight eliminator between Uzbek Bektemir Melikuziev 16(10KO)-1(1) and American Darius «DFG» Fulghum 14(12KO)-1, surprisingly, all three judges unanimously awarded the victory to «Bek» who, it should be remembered, was caught in a doping test (diuretics) years ago. All three scorecards were 114-112, while Bastion Boxing scored the fight 113-113.
Wanting to avoid the same fate as in his first fight against Rosado, «Bully» Melikuziev decided not to put pressure, and instead stayed in the center of the ring at mid or mid-long distance looking for opportunities to land power punches. However, as his defense continued to show no improvement and his hands continued to be absurdly low, the southpaw Melikuziev lost rounds during the first half due to this tactical decision, as Fulghum took advantage of his reach, speed, and technique to land jabs, left hooks, and hook-uppercut combinations. Melikuziev’s mistake became even more evident when, in the third round, he decided to pressure his opponent against the ropes and was clearly successful.
However, Melikuziev continued to insist on staying in the center of the ring without launching sustained offensives, relying only on sporadic attacks that often ended in a clinch. His frequent holding made him lost a point in the seventh round. However, in the second half, Fulghum allowed himself to be drawn into the chaos created by Melikuziev’s movements and lost solidity in his boxing, receiving hard power shots in straight left and hook to the body. Even so, the fight remained close, and in the ninth round, «DFG» even shook his opponent.
But despite suffering from obvious fatigue, in general Melikuziev had more success with his unorthodox attacks. In the tenth round, he wobbled his opponent, and in the twelfth, when he drove his opponent to the ropes, he scored a knockdown with a left hook, sealing his victory. With this success, Melikuziev theoretically becomes another of Canelo Álvarez‘s mandatory challengers, although having won that position in the WBA, it would not be out of the question that he would soon be led to a fight for one of its pathetic secondary titles.
