Martes 27 de mayo
Clasificado como 12º WBC y WBO del peso ligero, el japonés Shu Utsuki intentará continuar escalando posiciones y preparándose para mayores retos peleando por un título menor WBO ante el chino Aketelieti Yelejian, un boxeador mucho más peligroso de lo que podría parecer. Y es que Yelejian logró una victoria por KOT en Japón en 2023, perdió de forma cuestionable en Filipinas ante el hábil Albert Pagara en 2024 y viene de batir antes del límite como visitante al exretador mundial Genesis Servania el pasado febrero.
Miércoles 28 de mayo
Pasando al miércoles, de nuevo el interés se centrará en Japón, ya que allí se producirá un evento con dos campeonatos mundiales. En uno de ellos, el vacante cinturón IBF del peso superpluma será disputado por el pegador mexicano Eduardo Nuñez y el espigado zurdo japonés Masanori Rikiishi en el que se presenta como un combate muy interesante. En el otro campeonato mundial, el titular WBO del peso gallo Yoshiki Takei expondrá su cinto por segunda vez en su reinado ante un púgil invicto y con amplia carrera amateur, pero sin experiencia de calidad como profesional, como el tailandés Yuttapong Tongdee. Este evento será emitido por DAZN.
También el miércoles, el exmonarca del peso mínimo Thammanon Niyomtrong se enfrentará en Tailandia al invicto, zurdo y joven filipino Roland Toyogon.
Viernes 30 de mayo
El viernes, Matchroom Boxing y DAZN ofrecerán una velada desde México que estará encabezada por el combate de revancha entre Manuel Gallegos y Khalil Coe. En el primer encuentro entre estos dos peso semipesado, el pasado noviembre, se impuso Gallegos por KOT en el noveno round pero, pese a ello, no parte como favorito en las apuestas.
En el respaldo, el excampeón unificado del peso supergallo Murodjon Akhmadaliev continuará esperando a una pelea contra Naoya Inoue afrontando un rodaje ante Luis Castillo, que no boxea desde hace más de un año y medio.
También emitido por DAZN desde Estados Unidos, el invicto peso supermedio Darius Fulghum afrontará una eliminatoria WBA, y un primer test de gran envergadura, ante el positivo en control antidopaje Bektemir Melikuziev, mientras que el imbatido peso medio Eric Priest se medirá a un rival mucho más experimentado que él como Luis Arias.
Por otro lado, en Italia, se producirá un interesante choque del peso superligero entre Charlemagne Metonyekpon y Armando Casamonica.
Sábado 31 de mayo
El nombre más reconocido que se subirá a un ring esta semana será el estadounidense Caleb Plant, exmonarca mundial del peso supermedio que, tras sus derrotas ante Canelo y Benavídez, está buscando un nuevo choque ante un oponente de renombre, aunque no necesariamente en gran estado. De hecho, el plan es que, en este evento de PBC y Amazon Prime, se hagan comparaciones entre Plant y su probable próximo rival, un Jermall Charlo conocido e invicto pero que está en un muy mal momento personal. Sea como sea, antes de un posible Plant-Charlo, estos se enfrentarán respectivamente a José Reséndiz y Thomas Lamanna, oponentes en teoría muy por debajo de sus niveles si están bien preparados y ante los que parten como claros favoritos.
En el mismo cartel, el dos veces oro mundial amateur cubano Yoenli Hernández afrontará una primera prueba de fuego como profesional ante el competente estadounidense Kyrone Davis, mientras que el invicto mexicano Isaac Lucero se enfrentará en el peso superwélter a su imbatido compatriota Luis Valenzuela, que hasta ahora ha tenido oposición de bajo nivel.
Terminando con el artículo, queda por mencionar que en China el peso supergallo Zhong Liu intentará acceder al ranking WBO peleando contra el invicto, y también zurdo, filipino Gabriel Santísima, mientras que en México, emitido por TV Azteca, el peso superpluma Angel Daniel García será claro favorito para derrotar a su compatriota Edwing Dávila.

Ranked as WBC and WBO number 12 in the lightweight division, Japanese Shu Utsuki will try to continue climbing the ranks and preparing for bigger challenges by fighting for a minor WBO title against Chinese Aketelieti Yelejian, a much more dangerous boxer than it might seem. Yelejian scored a TKO victory in Japan in 2023, lost with controversy in the Philippines to the skilled Albert Pagara in 2024, and is coming off a knockout victory over former world title challenger Genesis Servania last February also on the road.
Wednesday, May 28
Moving on to Wednesday, a card from Japan will feature two world championship fights. In one of them, the vacant IBF super featherweight title will be contested by Mexican puncher Eduardo Núñez and the lanky Japanese southpaw Masanori Rikiishi, in what looks like a very interesting fight. In the other world championship bout, WBO bantamweight titleholder Yoshiki Takei will defend his belt for the second time in his reign against an undefeated fighter with an extensive amateur career, but without quality professional experience, as Thai Yuttapong Tongdee. This event will be broadcast on DAZN.
Also on Wednesday, in Thailand former minimumweight champion Thammanon Niyomtrong will face undefeated, young Filipino southpaw Roland Toyogon.
Friday, May 30
On Friday, DAZN will air a Matchroom Boxing evening from Mexico headlined by the rematch between Manuel Gallegos and Khalil Coe. In the first meeting between these two light heavyweights, which took place last November, Gallegos won by ninth-round TKO but, despite this, he is the underdog in the betting odds.
On the undercard, former unified super bantamweight champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev will continue waiting for a fight against Naoya Inoue facing a stay busy bout against Luis Castillo, who hasn’t boxed for over a year and a half.
Also broadcast on DAZN, from the United States, undefeated super middleweight Darius Fulghum will face a WBA eliminator, and his first big test, against Bektemir Melikuziev, who years ago tested positive for doping. In the co-feature bout, undefeated middleweight Eric Priest will face an opponent much more experienced than him in Luis Arias.

For many the most distinguished name entering the ring this week will be American Caleb Plant, former super middleweight world champion who, after his losses to Canelo and Benavídez, is looking for another clash against a renowned opponent, though not necessarily in top form. In fact, the plan is for this PBC and Amazon Prime event to allow comparisons between Plant and his likely next opponent, former champion Jermall Charlo, a well-known and undefeated fighter who is in a very bad personal situation. Be that as it may, before a possible Plant-Charlo matchup, they will face José Reséndiz and Thomas Lamanna, respectively, opponents who are theoretically far below their level if they are well prepared and against whom they are very clear favorites.

In Mexico, broadcast on TV Azteca, super featherweight Angel Daniel García will be the clear favorite to defeat his compatriot Edwing Dávila.
