Martes 20 de mayo
Ha llegado el momento de un nuevo paso adelante para el pegador japonés del peso supergallo Subaru Murata, destacado prospecto con 100% de knockouts y con buena carrera amateur que en su décimo combate profesional se medirá al veterano excampeón mundial Yukinori Oguni. Dado que Murata, 7º WBA, parece estar en gran estado y Oguni tuvo una dura derrota en octubre, el invicto será clarísimo favorito para continuar su racha de knockouts.
En el mismo evento, el insigne exmonarca filipino Donnie Nietes disputará su segundo combate desde su retorno a los rings (tras más de dos años y medio de inactividad) ante el zurdo japonés Jun Ikegawa.
Jueves 22 de mayo
Hablando de inactividades, el hábil peso pluma estadounidense Vic Pasillas disputará su segundo combate desde su derrota ante Ra’eese Aleem (enero de 2021) combatiendo contra su compatriota Carlos Jackson, boxeador teóricamente por debajo de su nivel y que no está mucho más rodado que él (dos combates desde septiembre 2022). Esta pelea será emitida por DAZN.
Viernes 23 de mayo
En este día, los mexicanos Willibaldo García y René Calixto se enfrentarán en un combate de revancha por el vacante cinturón mundial IBF del peso supermosca. El primer duelo, disputado el pasado diciembre, terminó en empate, así que, teniendo ambos buen encaje y no mucha pegada, se espera otro contendido choque. ESPN Knockout emitirá esta pelea.
Por otro lado, desde Reino Unido, DAZN emitirá una velada que contará con el choque del peso ligero entre dos púgiles con buena técnica como Maxi Hughes y Archie Sharp. Para el primero este es un duelo decisivo que marcará si se ve relegado a la posición de piedra de toque o si regresa a las conversaciones para importantes peleas, mientras que el segundo se jugará enderezar su carrera tras un primer tropiezo en su último combate ante Ryan Garner.
En el mismo cartel, la campeona mundial WBO del peso ligero Terri Harper expondrá su cinturón contra una Natalie Zimmerman ante la que será abrumadora favorita.
También el viernes, el olímpico croata Luka Plantić, 5º WBC del peso supermedio, se enfrentará por primera vez a un invicto, siendo éste el argentino Bruno Damián Acosta.
Sábado 24 de mayo
El mayor evento de la semana se desarrollará en Japón y contará con dos campeonatos mundiales. En uno de ellos, el campeón mundial IBF del peso pluma Angelo Leo se medirá al exmonarca supergallo Tomoki Kameda. Sumándose la habilidad de Kameda a su condición de local, éste podría ser un combate exigente para Leo. Con todo, como Kameda ha tenido dificultades para marcar la diferencia en choques de nivel alto y Leo se ha convertido de la noche a la mañana en un temible pegador ante rivales de élite (como prospecto y contendiente se decía que le faltaba pegada), el estadounidense parte como sólido favorito.
En el otro mundial, el japonés, exmonarca mundial del peso mínimo, Ginjiro Shigeoka intentará recuperar su corona IBF y desquitarse en una revancha ante el filipino Pedro Taduran.
Por otro lado, en Reino Unido, emitido por DAZN, el exmonarca mundial indiscutido del peso superligero Josh Taylor, 11º WBC y WBO, buscará regresar a la senda del triunfo, apuntalar su carrera (que él mismo se encargó de desestabilizar fuera del ring cuando estaba en su mejor momento) y acercarse a una gran pelea en el peso wélter peleando por un título menor WBO contra el 5º en este mismo ranking, Ekow Essuman. El incansable Essuman parece un buen test para Taylor en estos momentos, ya que posee las cualidades para poner a prueba la condición física y la concentración de Taylor pero está en proceso de recuperación tras una decisiva derrota y está por debajo del nivel de la cumbre.
En el respaldo se producirá un interesante duelo del peso pluma entre Nathaniel Collins y Lee McGregor y el peso pesado Moses Itauma buscará un nuevo knockout ante Mike Balogun.
Finalmente, queda mencionar que en Polonia, televisado por TVP Sports, el peso wélter checo Lukas Dekys afrontará su primer choque de 2025 ante el experimentado Przemyslaw Runowski, quien le permitirá evaluar si está listo o no para afrontar mayores retos.

Tuesday, May 20
The time has come for a new step forward for Japanese super bantamweight puncher Subaru Murata, a standout prospect with a 100% knockout ratio and a solid amateur career. In his tenth professional fight, he will face veteran former world champion Yukinori Oguni. Given that Murata, ranked as number 7 in the WBA list, appears to be in great shape and Oguni suffered a tough loss in October, the undefeated fighter will be clear favorite to continue his knockout streak.
At the same event, former champion Donnie Nietes will face his second fight since his return to the ring (after more than two and a half years of inactivity) against Japanese southpaw Jun Ikegawa.
Thursday, May 22
Speaking of inactivity, the skilled American featherweight Vic Pasillas will have his second bout since his loss to Ra’eese Aleem (January 2021) against his compatriot Carlos Jackson, a boxer theoretically below his level and not much more seasoned than him (two fights since September 2022). This bout will be broadcast on DAZN.
Friday, May 23
On this day, Mexicans Willibaldo García and René Calixto will face each other in a rematch for the vacant IBF super flyweight world belt. The first duel, held last December, ended in a draw so, with both men having a good chin and not much punching power, another contested fight is expected. ESPN Knockout will televise it.
From the United Kingdom, DAZN will broadcast an evening featuring a lightweight clash between two technical boxers as Maxi Hughes and Archie Sharp. For the former, this is a decisive duel that will determine whether he’ll be relegated to a stepping stone position or he’ll return to the conversations for big fights, while the latter will be fighting to get his career back on track after an upset defeat in his last bout against Ryan Garner.
On the same card, WBO lightweight world champion Terri Harper will defend her belt against Natalie Zimmerman, over whom she will be overwhelming favorite.
Also on Friday, Croatian Olympian Luka Plantić, number 5 in the WBC super middleweight ranking, will face an undefeated fighter for the first time in Argentinian Bruno Damián Acosta.
Saturday, May 24
The biggest event of the week will take place in Japan and will feature two world championships. In one of them, IBF featherweight world champion Angelo Leo will battle former super bantamweight champion Tomoki Kameda. Taking into account Kameda’s skill and home advantage, this could be a challenging fight for Leo. However, since Kameda has struggled to win clearly in high-level fights and Leo has become a fearsome puncher against elite opponents overnight (as a prospect and contender he was said to lack punching power), the American is a solid favorite.
In the other world championship bout, former minimumweight world champion Ginjiro Shigeoka will try to regain his IBF crown and get even in a rematch against Filipino Pedro Taduran.
In the UK, broadcast on DAZN, former undisputed super lightweight world champion Josh Taylor, ranked number 11 in the WBC and WBO, will look to return to winning ways, keep his career afloat (which he himself destabilized outside the ring at his peak), and get closer to a big bout at welterweight by fighting for a minor WBO title against the fifth-ranked Ekow Essuman. The tireless Essuman seems like a good fight for Taylor right now, as he possesses the qualities to test Taylor’s physical condition and focus, but he is still recovering after a decisive defeat and is below the top level.
The undercard will feature an interesting featherweight duel between Nathaniel Collins and Lee McGregor, and heavyweight Moses Itauma will seek another knockout against Mike Balogun.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that in Poland, televised by TVP Sports, Czech welterweight Lukas Dekys will face his first match of 2025 against the experienced Przemyslaw Runowski, who will allow him to assess whether he’s ready for bigger challenges.
