Cualquier palabra o frase que se pudiese utilizar para descalificar al árbitro Jack Reiss se quedaría corta, puesto que su actuación en el combate entre el campeón mundial kazajo Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly 14(9KO)-0 y el retador canadiense Steven “Bang Bang” Butler 32(26KO)-4(4)-1 fue una atrocidad. Y es que Reiss permitió que Alimkhanuly apalizase a un oponente totalmente roto durante decenas de segundos antes de decretar el KOT en el segundo round.
Simplemente, no hubo combate. Tras un primer round sin demasiado que destacar, en el segundo asalto Alimkhanuly contragolpeó a Butler con un demoledor uppercut zurdo que quebró su resistencia, siendo golpeado el retador por andanadas de golpes curvos hasta que cayó. El choque debió terminar ahí, dado que el canadiense se levantó en muy mal estado y no se podía mantener estable, pero el árbitro Jack Reiss increíblemente dejó que la pugna siguiese. Así, el kazajo asestó peligrosísimos golpes de poder ante un Butler en muy mal estado, pero ni aun así el árbitro saltó para detener el encuentro. Al contrario, Reiss dejó que Butler cayese otra vez más e incluso reanudó las acciones tras esa caída, dando Alimkhanuly más puñetazos sin respuesta hasta que su oponente volvió a caer y, ahora sí, se detuvo el choque.
En fin, dejando de lado este injustificable comportamiento del tercer hombre y el previsible triunfo antes del límite en la primera mitad del monarca, el hecho es que este duro knockout de Alimkhanuly cumplió de forma perfecta el objetivo de la promotora, que buscaba con este combate devolverle al kazajo impulso tras las criticas recibidas en la pelea ante Bentley. De todos modos, si antes del Janibek-Butler los aspirantes no hacían cola para pelear contra el campeón, ahora tampoco se mostrarán entusiasmados, siendo Liam Smith el único boxeador que ha manifestado clara y públicamente que le gustaría retar a Alimkhanuly si gana el combate de revancha ante Eubank Jr.

Any negative word or phrase that could be used against the referee Jack Reiss would fall short, as his performance in the bout between Kazakh world champion Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly 14(9KO)-0 and Canadian challenger Steven “Bang Bang” Butler 32(26KO)-4(4)-1 was atrocious. Reiss allowed Alimkhanuly to pummel a completely broken opponent for dozens of seconds before stopping the bout in the second round.
After an unremarkable first round, in the second Alimkhanuly countered Butler with a devastating left uppercut that broke his resistance, the challenger being hit by barrages of hooks and uppercuts until he went down. The clash should have ended there, as the Canadian got up in a very bad shape and couldn’t avoid to stagger, but referee Jack Reiss unbelievably let the fight continue. Thus, the Kazakh delivered very dangerous power shots against a boxer in very poor condition, but even so the referee did not stop the match. Instead, Reiss let Butler go down again and even resumed the action after that knockdown, so Alimkhanuly landed more unanswered punches until his opponent was dropped for the third time and, then, the clash was stopped.
Leaving aside this unjustifiable behavior of the referee and the predictable stoppage victory of the champion in the first half of the bout, the fact is that this hard knockout by Alimkhanuly perfectly fulfilled the objective of the promoter, who was looking to help the Kazakh regain momentum after the criticism he received in the fight against Bentley. In any case, if before the Janibek-Butler fight the contenders were not lining up to fight the champion, now they will not be enthusiastic either, Liam Smith being the only boxer who has clearly and publicly stated that he would like to challenge Alimkhanuly if he wins the rematch against Eubank Jr.
