El peso crucero, y bronce olímpico, búlgaro Tervel Pulev retornó al ring cerca de un año después de su primera derrota enfrentándose al estadounidense Joel Shojgreen, a quien venció en tres asaltos. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
Viernes 14 de abril
El bronce olímpico armenio Hovhannes Bachkov mostró algunas brechas ante el imbatido venezolano José Muñoz, pero lo derribó cuatro veces y logró un triunfo por KOT en el sexto asalto. También se resolvió por KOT el encuentro del peso superwélter entre el puertorriqueño Derrieck Cuevas y el cubano Damián Rodríguez, ya que el primero derribó y superó a su contrincante en el segundo asalto. Respecto al campeonato de la Unión Europea del peso supergallo, esta vez el titular Vincenzo Picardi 10(2KO)-0 no tuvo que lidiar con una ajustada decisión, puesto que logró un KOT en el noveno asalto ante el francés Mike Esteves 10(0KO)-2(2)-1. Este resultado dará moral a Picardi y lo seguirá manteniendo cerca de la disputa del campeonato de Europa, aunque sigue dando la impresión de que cuando afronte un importante paso adelante podría quedarse bastante corto.
En el semifondo, el campeón de Italia del peso medio Giovanni “Nino” Rossetti 11(4KO)-2(1) perdió su título en el primer round a manos del invicto Luca Chiancone 8(4KO)-0-1, que en dos combates ha noqueado a dos prospectos y ha dado un vuelco a su carrera y a la división en el ámbito nacional italiano.
El viernes también tuvo estos otros resultados:
-En esta ocasión el prometedor peso pluma Omar Cande 12(9KO)-0 no logró un knockout, pero venció claramente por decisión unánime (80-72, 80-72, 78-74) al duro Adán Ochoa 12(5KO)-3, de modo que se mantuvo firme en su avance y desarrollo en su segundo duelo pactado a ocho asaltos.
-También venció su combate por decisión unánime el excampeón de España del peso ligero Carlos “Ratón” Pérez 19(2KO)-7(1)-2 ante Kevin Baldospino 11(3KO)-8(1)-2, lo que en teoría le emplaza a un combate más significativo en los próximos doce meses.
Sábado 15 de abril
Una vez más, Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce se descuidó en defensa y confió demasiado en su encaje, por lo que, sumándose a ello una táctica errada, un zurdo, hábil, muy potente y más pesado que él como Zhilei Zhang le cerró el ojo derecho a puñetazos y se impuso por KOT en el sexto round. En el semifondo, la excampeona del peso superpluma Mikaela Mayer debutó exitosamente en el peso ligero venciendo por amplia decisión unánime a la sustituta Lucy Wildheart, convirtiéndose en retadora obligatoria de Katie Taylor. La cartelera principal también contó con rápidas victorias del campeón británico del peso medio Denzel Bentley y el prospecto del peso ligero Sam Noakes respectivamente ante Kieran Smith y Karthik Sathish Kumar. Pasando a la velada mexicana de Zanfer Boxing, Víctor Efraín “Chucky” Sandoval 37(23KO)-3(1) tuvo una contendida pugna contra Gohan Rodríguez 12(1KO)-3-1, pero terminó haciéndose con un triunfo por decisión mayoritaria (97-93, 96-94 y 95-95). Así, Sandoval llevó su racha a 25 triunfos consecutivos, lo que parece que le hace merecedor de una clasificación mucho mejor que el puesto de 34º WBC del peso supermosca que actualmente ostenta.
Respecto a los combates del respaldo, el joven peso superpluma Carlos Vargas 15(12KO)-1 venció por decisión unánime (79-73, 78-74, 77-75) a Edgar Alor 14(12KO)-5(1)-1; el peso mosca Raúl Rubio 15(7KO)-2(1) venció a Ali Cortez 12(7KO)-3(1) por decisión dividida (78-73, 77-74, 75-76); y el prospecto uzbeko del peso wélter Ikboljon Kholdarov 5(4KO)-0 sólo necesitó un asalto para acabar con el sustituto Eleazar Valenzuela 25(19KO)-26(13).
Por otro lado, el peso superwélter español Sergio “El Niño” García volvió al ring con una buena actuación y una amplia victoria por decisión unánime ante el voluntarioso argentino Ricardo Sebastián Cabaña. Crónica y enlace al vídeo del evento siguiendo el link.
Pasando al evento polaco, el campeonato de Polonia del peso medio se resolvió con un triunfo por decisión unánime (98-92, 97-93, 97-93) de Karol Welter 13(3KO)-1 sobre Stanislaw Gibadlo 9(1KO)-1. Welter encadena cinco triunfos (de los cuales tres son destacables) desde que sufrió una ajustada derrota dividida, por lo que parece estar en un buen momento y listo para nuevos pasos adelante a diez asaltos en el futuro próximo.
En cuanto al resto del cartel, el peso wélter Lukasz Wierzbicki 22(8KO)-2(2) sufrió un nuevo duro revés contra pronóstico con un KO en el cuarto round ante el colombiano Plácido Ramírez 22(15KO)-3(2), lo que empieza a dibujar claramente cuál es su techo. Por otro lado, el olímpico ucraniano Dmytro Mytrofanov 13(6KO)-0-1 sí cumplió con su objetivo y derrotó por amplísima decisión unánime (60-54, 60-54, 59-55) a Juan Carlos Rodríguez 18(17KO)-5(3).
El sábado también tuvo estos otros resultados:
-La campeona mundial WBC del peso átomo Fabiana Bytyqi 20(5KO)-0-2 venció la revancha ante la mexicana Elizabeth “Veneno” López Corzo 10(1KO)-6(3)-5 por decisión unánime (99-91, 99-91, 98-92), pero tiene demasiados resultados controvertidos favorables para poder disipar su imagen de vulnerabilidad.
-El mexicano José Russell Regalado 13(8KO)-0 superó su prueba descendiendo al peso minimosca ante Germán Valenzuela 17(12KO)-5 derrotándolo por decisión unánime (97-92, 97-92, 97-92) y de seguir así en no mucho tiempo aparecerá en alguna de las listas.
-El prospecto del peso superligero Ernesto Mercado 10(10KO)-0 dio nuevas muestras de su pegada, y se vengó de la jugarreta que le hizo Henry Lundy 31(14KO)-13(4)-1 cancelando ilegalmente su combate meses atrás, noqueándolo en el primer round.
-El joven peso superpluma chileno Junior Cruzat 11(6KO)-0 tuvo diez asaltos útiles para su experiencia ante el argentino Walter Ezequiel Gauchez 8(3KO)-2, al que derrotó por decisión mayoritaria (97-93, 97-92, 95-95).
-El boliviano Ramón Averanga 11(7KO)-3(2) perdió por KOT en el noveno asalto su tercer combate contra el exretador mundial chileno José Velásquez 32(22KO)-8-2, así que este último retornará a la clasificación WBO del peso supergallo.
Domingo 16 de abril
Los dos hermanos Shigeoka vencieron, ambos por KOT, y conquistaron títulos interinos del peso mínimo. En el caso de Ginjiro Shigeoka 9(7KO)-0, éste fue derribado en una ocasión, pero se anotó tres knockdowns contra el excampeón mundial filipino René Mark Cuarto 21(12KO)-4(1)-2 y le asestó su primera derrota antes del límite con un KOT en el noveno round. Por su parte, Yudai Shigeoka 7(5KO)-0 derribó dos veces al extitular mundial puertorriqueño Wilfredo Méndez 18(6KO)-3(2) antes de lograr un triunfo por KO en el séptimo asalto.
De ese modo, ahora el campeón WBC Panya Pradabsri y el campeón IBF Daniel Valladares ya no podrán volver a escaparse y les toca prepararse para dificilísimas pugnas respectivamente ante Ginjiro y Yudai, o de lo contrario tendrán que renunciar a sus cinturones.
Por lo demás, sólo queda por destacar la victoria por decisión unánime (80-71, 80-71 y 79-72) del peso minimosca japonés Takeru Inoue 3(2KO)-0 contra el mucho más experimentado filipino Orlie Silvestre 17(9KO)-8(1)-2, resultado que afianza las buenas perspectivas para la carrera del invicto.

Bulgarian cruiserweight, and Olympic bronze medalist, Tervel Pulev returned to the ring about a year after his first loss fighting American Joel Shojgreen, whom he defeated in three rounds. Read more following the link.
Friday, April 14
Armenian Olympic bronze medalist Hovhannes Bachkov showed some flaws against unbeaten Venezuelan José Munoz, but dropped him four times and scored a sixth-round TKO win. Archie “Sharpshooter” Sharp and Danny Dignum added victories to their records in the same event. Read more following the link.
The super welterweight match between Puerto Rican Derrieck Cuevas and Cuban Damián Rodríguez also ended by TKO, since the former knocked down and defeated his opponent in the second round. Regarding the European Union super bantamweight championship, this time the titleholder Vincenzo Picardi 10(2KO)-0 did not have to deal with a close decision, since he scored a ninth-round TKO over Frenchman Mike Esteves 10(0KO)-2(2)-1. This result will give Picardi morale and will keep him close to the European championship, although it still seems that when he faces an important step up he could fall quite short.
In the undercard, Italian middleweight champion Giovanni “Nino” Rossetti 11(4KO)-2(1) lost his title due to a first-round KO defeat against undefeated Luca Chiancone 8(4KO)-0-1, who in two bouts has knocked out two prospects and has drastically changed his career and the division in his country.

-This time promising featherweight Omar Cande 12(9KO)-0 did not achieve a knockout, but he clearly defeated the tough Adán Ochoa 12(5KO)-3 by unanimous decision (80-72, 80-72, 78-74), so he remained firm in his progress and development in his second eight- rounder.
-Former Spanish lightweight champion Carlos «Ratón» Pérez 19(2KO)-7(1)-2 beat Kevin Baldospino 11(3KO)-8(1)-2 also by unanimous decision, which in theory will bring him to a more significant fight in the next twelve months.

Once again, Joe «Juggernaut» Joyce was careless in defense and relied too much on his chin so, adding to this a wrong tactic, a skillful, very powerful southpaw (and heavier than him) like Zhilei Zhang closed his right eye with punches and won by sixth-round TKO. Zhang is now one of three mandatory challengers for unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Read more following the link.
In the undercard, former super featherweight champion Mikaela Mayer successfully debuted at lightweight by defeating substitute Lucy Wildheart by wide unanimous decision, thus becoming Katie Taylor’s mandatory challenger. Moving on to the Mexican evening organized by Zanfer Boxing, Víctor Efraín “Chucky” Sandoval 37(23KO)-3(1) had a contested fight against Gohan Rodríguez 12(1KO)-3-1, but ended up winning by majority decision ( 97-93, 96-94 and 95-95). With the win, Sandoval took his streak to 25 consecutive victories, which seems to make him deserve a much better ranking than the position as number 34 in the WBC super flyweight list he currently holds.
Regarding the undercard bouts, young super featherweight Carlos Vargas 15(12KO)-1 defeated Edgar Alor 14(12KO)-5(1)-1 by unanimous decision (79-73, 78-74, 77-75); flyweight Raúl Rubio 15(7KO)-2(1) beat Ali Cortez 12(7KO)-3(1) by split decision (78-73, 77-74, 75-76); and Uzbek welterweight prospect Ikboljon Kholdarov 5(4KO)-0 needed just one round to get rid of substitute Eleazar Valenzuela 25(19KO)-26(13).

Moving on to the event in Poland, the Polish middleweight championship was won by Karol Welter 13(3KO)-1 with a unanimous decision (98-92, 97-93, 97-93) over Stanislaw Gibadlo 9(1KO)-1. Welter has scored five wins (three of which are remarkable) since he suffered a close split decision loss, so he looks to be in good shape and ready for further ten-round tests in the near future.
As for the rest of the card, welterweight Lukasz Wierzbicki 22(8KO)-2(2) suffered another upset, this time by fourth-round KO against Colombian Plácido Ramírez 22(15KO)-3(2), result which begins to clearly draw what his ceiling is. Sunday, April 16
The two Shigeoka brothers won by TKO and conquered interim minimumweight titles. Ginjiro Shigeoka 9(7KO)-0 was knocked down once, but dropped three times Filipino former world champion René Mark Cuarto 21(12KO)-4(1)-2 and dealt him his first stoppage defeat with a ninth-round TKO. For his part, Yudai Shigeoka 7(5KO)-0 knocked down Puerto Rican former world titleholder Wilfredo Mendez 18(6KO)-3(2) twice before scoring a seventh-round KO win.
In this way, now the WBC champion Panya Pradabsri and the IBF champion Daniel Valladares will no longer be able to escape and will have to prepare for very difficult fights respectively against Ginjiro and Yudai, or else they will have to vacate their belts.
As for the rest, it only remains to be highlighted one more result: the victory by unanimous decision (80-71, 80-71 and 79-72) of the Japanese light flyweight Takeru Inoue 3(2KO)-0 against the much more experienced Filipino Orlie Silvestre 17(9KO)-8(1)-2, a result that strengthens the good prospects for Inoue’s career.
