La baja de Christina Linardatou, debido a que no superó los exámenes médicos de la comisión británica, impidió a la estadounidense Mikaela Mayer 18(5KO)-1 hacer la declaración de intenciones que pretendía realizar. No obstante, al menos no se quedó ni sin combate ni sin premio, puesto que se subió al ring para medirse a la sustituta sueca Lucy Wildheart 10(4KO)-2 y ante ésta se convirtió en titular interina WBC del peso ligero y, por lo tanto, en retadora obligatoria de Katie Taylor. La victoria de Mayer fue por decisión unánime y cartulinas de 100-90, 98-91 y 98-92.
En el arranque la precisión y la velocidad de Mayer con su jab y su directo de derecha fueron factores determinantes para superar a Wildheart, que puso voluntad e intentó trabajar con sus hooks cada vez que las acciones se situaron en la distancia media y corta pero que en general fue menos eficaz. Tanto fue así que en los intercambios de curvos (cada vez más numerosos) Mayer también tuvo más aciertos en la mayoría de ocasiones.
Viendo que su contrincante no representaba un gran peligro, Mayer paró sus pies y cruzó golpes intentando causar daños decisivos, logrando desgastar a Wildheart un tanto con sus hooks al torso. Aun así, Mayer no pudo causar daños importantes y se tuvo que contentar con lograr un claro triunfo y ofrecer una actuación completa imponiendo su jab y sus rectos desde lejos y asestando buenas combinaciones de ganchos en corta contra una Wildheart que sólo eventualmente impactó sólidas contras.
Itauma ganó a los puntos
Hasta ahora el jovencísimo peso pesado Moses Itauma 3(2KO)-0 no había pasado del primer round, pero el sábado, en su primer duelo a seis asaltos, se encontró con un boxeador con excelente encaje como Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko 9(6KO)-13-1 que le llevó a su primer triunfo a los puntos. La puntuación del juez-árbitro fue 60-54.
En el comienzo, el zurdo Itauma castigó con duros ganchos abajo y combinaciones de curvos a la cabeza que Dovbyshchenko resistió pese a dar muestras de haber sentido varios de los puños. De hecho, a partir del tercer round el encajador ucraniano incluso intentó presionar a su contrincante, si bien sin a penas lanzar golpes, por lo que el dominio de Itauma se mantuvo a través de jabs, directos de izquierda y algunas explosivas combinaciones de uppercut y hook además de desplazamientos.

The fact that Christina Linardatou did not pass the medical exams of the British commission, prevented the American Mikaela Mayer 18(5KO)-1 from making the statement she intended to make. However, at least she was not left without a fight or without a prize, since she stepped into the ring to face the Swedish substitute Lucy Wildheart 10(4KO)-2 and against her she became WBC interim lightweight titleholder and, therefore, Katie Taylor’s mandatory challenger. Mayer’s win was by unanimous decision and scorecards of 100-90, 98-91 and 98-92.
At the start, Mayer’s precision and speed with her jab and her right hand were determining factors to overcome Wildheart, who put effort and tried to work with her hooks every time the actions were in the medium and short distance but that overall was less effective. So much so that in the exchanges of hooks (increasingly frequent) Mayer also had more successes on most occasions.
Seeing that her opponent did not represent a great danger, Mayer stopped her feet and exchanged punches trying to deal decisive damage, and she seemed to wear Wildheart down a bit with her body shots. Still, Mayer was unable to do major damage and had to settle for a clear win and a well-rounded performance imposing her jab and right hand from distance and landing good hook combinations at close range against an opponent who only eventually connected solid counters.
Itauma won on points
Until now, the very young heavyweight Moses Itauma 3(2KO)-0 had not gone beyond the first round, but on Saturday, in his first six-rounder, he met a boxer with an excellent chin like Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko 9(6KO)-13-1 that led him to his first win on points. The referee-judge score was 60-54.
In the beginning, the southpaw Itauma punished with hard hooks down and combinations of hooks to the head that Dovbyshchenko resisted despite showing signs of having felt several of the punches. In fact, from the third round the Ukrainian boxer even tried to put pressure on his opponent, albeit hardly throwing punches, so Itauma kept dominating through jabs, straight left hands, some explosive uppercut-hook combinations and lateral movements.
