El pasado fin de semana se confirmó oficialmente que Josh Taylor y Teófimo López se enfrentarán el día 10 de junio en el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York, Estados Unidos, por el cinturón mundial WBO del peso superligero que posee el primero. Este es un combate entre boxeadores en duda y en crisis después de malas actuaciones y, lo que es peor, con un comportamiento inmaduro, irresponsable y errático, por lo que cuanto menos está bien emparejado y resulta interesante: pese a sus brechas, uno de ellos reflotará tras el choque y el otro seguirá cayendo en picado.
En cualquier caso, el hecho es que tras este anuncio, la WBO ha movido ficha y ha ordenado una eliminatoria final para decir quién será el retador obligatorio del ganador del Taylor vs. Teófimo.
En una carta dirigida a Top Rank y Matchroom Boxing, el organismo ha ordenado al estadounidense Arnold Barboza Jr. y al australiano Liam Paro que inicien las negociaciones para dicho encuentro, teniendo ahora ambos equipos diez días para alcanzar un acuerdo y evitar la subasta, que tendría pujas mínimas aceptables de 150.000 dólares.
Ciertamente, en una categoría con muchos choques potenciales de notable calibre y algunos contendientes verdaderamente dificilísimos, seguramente muchos no estén satisfechos con que se haya ordenado esta eliminatoria en lugar de otra pugna. Aun así, y aunque es verdad que se podría haber escogido mejor, este también es un enfrentamiento con alicientes, puesto que los dos son boxeadores invictos, que vienen de sus mayores victorias y que se enfrentarán a un púgil con cualidades, ambicioso, motivado y en buen estado de forma que busca demostrar hasta dónde llega verdaderamente su nivel.

Last weekend it was officially confirmed that Josh Taylor and Teófimo López will meet on June 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York, United States, for the WBO super lightweight world belt owned by the former. This is a fight between boxers in doubt and in crisis after bad performances and, what is worse, with immature, irresponsible and erratic behaviors, so at least it is a well matched and interesting bout: despite their flaws, one of them will stay afloat after the fight and the other will continue to sink.
In any case, the fact is that after this announcement, the WBO has made a move and has ordered a final eliminator to decide who will be the mandatory challenger for the winner of the Taylor vs. Teófimo fight.
In a letter addressed to Top Rank and Matchroom Boxing, the organization has ordered the American Arnold Barboza Jr. and the Australian Liam Paro to begin negotiations for said match, both teams now having ten days to reach an agreement and avoid the purse bid, which would have minimum acceptable bids of $150,000.
Certainly, in a weight class with many potential clashes of notable caliber and some truly very good contenders, surely many will not be satisfied with this eliminator. Even so, and although it is true that the WBO could have chosen better, this is also an interesting match, since both are undefeated fighters, who are coming from their best victories and who will face a motivated boxer with qualities and in good shape looking to show what his level really is.
