En ocasiones en un combate de boxeo no gana el que tiene más técnica y mayor habilidad, sino el que tiene mejores condiciones físicas y más voluntad y garra. Esto fue exactamente lo que sucedió el viernes en el duelo entre el tailandés Phumiritdet Chonlathondamrongkun 14(13KO)-1 y el filipino Jules Victoriano 12(9KO)-6(5), dado que el segundo mostró tener un boxeo superior pero, cuando estaba encaminado hacia la victoria, fue derribado tres veces y batido por KOT en el octavo asalto.
Ambos boxeadores se tomaron con calma el inicio. Tanto fue así que el árbitro múltiples veces les pidió que mostrasen más combatividad. De todos modos, la baja actividad benefició a Victoriano, que con escasos jabs, cruzados zurdos o ganchos abajo se llevó los primeros dos rounds. Sin embargo, el árbitro se cansó del pobre espectáculo que estaban ofreciendo y en el tercer asalto directamente paró las acciones y les solicitó que se atacasen más. Esto hizo despertar a Chonlathondamrongkun, que lanzó golpes de poder con agresividad y alcanzó a su oponente con ganchos y abiertos cruzados tanto en ese como en el siguiente round.
En cualquier caso, aunque a base de mero empuje y pegada, el tailandés empezó a tener éxitos, su avance fue demasiado frontal, así que Victoriano pudo replicar a sus ofensivas con series de rectos, ganchos zurdos y uppercuts diestros que entraron nítidos entre su guardia.
Aunque estaba recibiendo puños duros y tenía un corte en el párpado y sangraba por la nariz, el local siguió esforzándose y cargando contra su adversario, que cada vez boxeaba mejor, golpeando y marchándose. Pero entonces, en el octavo episodio, en un descuido cercano a las cuerdas, Victoriano recibió un demoledor derechazo acompañado por hook de mano adelantada que le puso en el tapiz. El filipino se levantó y trató de resistir con valentía, pero por dos veces fue puesto en la lona otra vez por los golpes de poder de Chonlathondamrongkun, que se hizo así finalmente con el KOT.
No se puede cuestionar que el boxeador tailandés golpea siempre con voluntad de generar daños y que las dificultades no le hacen arredrarse. Pero la garra y la pegada, pese a ser cualidades importantes, no son de por sí suficientes para aspirar al triunfo al nivel alto. Así, si Chonlathondamrongkun no evoluciona rápido y empieza a darle profundidad técnica a su boxeo, más pronto que tarde se encontrará con otro rival que, como el prospecto Apichet Petchmanee (que le derrotó en 2021), pueda resistir sus golpes y explotar sus brechas para controlarlo y vencerlo.

Sometimes in a boxing match does not win the boxer with the most technique and skill, but the one with the best physical condition and the most will and grit. This was exactly what happened on Friday in the duel between Thai Phumiritdet Chonlathondamrongkun 14(13KO)-1 and Filipino Jules Victoriano 12(9KO)-6(5), since the latter showed superior boxing but, when he was close to victory, he was knocked down three times and beaten by TKO in the eighth round.
Both boxers took it easy at the start. So much so that the referee multiple times asked them to show more combativeness. In any case, the low activity benefited Victoriano, who with few jabs and left hooks took the first two rounds. However, the referee got tired of the poor show they were offering and in the third round he directly stopped the actions and asked them to attack each other more. This woke up Chonlathondamrongkun, who delivered aggressive power shots in hook and overhand that hit his opponent in both that and the following rounds.

It cannot be questioned that the Thai boxer always strikes with the intention of causing damage and that difficulties do not make him back down. But grit and power, despite being important qualities, are not enough by themselves to aspire to victory at a high level. Therefore, if Chonlathondamrongkun does not evolve quickly and begins to give technical depth to his boxing, sooner rather than later he will find another opponent who, like prospect Apichet Petchmanee (who defeated him in 2021), can withstand his blows and exploit his flaws to dominate and defeat him.
