El estadounidense-panameño Cesar “Rainman” Francis 12(7KO)-1 apuntaba a un enfrentamiento de gran nivel en el peso superligero después de lo que é,l esperaba que fuese una victoria sobre el mexicano Jesús Saracho 13(11KO)-1(1). Sin embargo, a pesar de que era favorito en las apuestas y no empezó con mal pie, Francis tuvo una floja segunda mitad y, en un combate que podría haber acabado tanto en empate como en victoria por un asalto de cualquiera de los dos púgiles, los jueces le dieron el triunfo unánime a Saracho con puntuaciones de razonable doble 96-94 y un 98-92 que no se corresponde con lo sucedido.
El zurdo Saracho intentó presionar al favorito, pero al comienzo Francis estaba muy afilado al contragolpe y conectó sólidos directos diestros, viéndose el mexicano en algunos apuros al final del segundo asalto al ser aparentemente dañado por un par de ganchos abajo y recibir posteriormente una ofensiva. Tras este éxito, Francis ya no se desplazó ni se replegó tanto, sino que empezó a ocupar el centro del ring usando el jab buscando la ocasión para intentar causar estragos con golpes de poder. Sin embargo, al ataque no encontró resultados importantes y erró bastantes manos, por lo que terminó centrándose en contragolpear.
Dado que Saracho no estaba teniendo éxitos suficientes y sabía que su rival le quería contragolpear, y Francis aguardaba y aguardaba sin dejar volar sus manos, la pelea durante un cierto tiempo no tuvo demasiada actividad. Esto en teoría favorecía a “Rainman”, pero su bajísima cadencia de golpes le sirvió a un Saracho más agresivo para, hacia la mitad, terminar encontrando el camino para buenos puños, destacando varios nítidos directos de izquierda. Francis empezó a sangrar por la boca y en el octavo asalto incluso recibió peligrosas combinaciones de espaldas a las cuerdas.
En ese momento el mexicano debería haberse mostrado más incisivo buscando aprovechar la situación para intentar lograr la victoria más clara posible, pero le cedió el centro del ring a Francis y sólo le atacó con manos aisladas y esporádicas, aunque esto le bastó para seguir su remontada. Pese a ello, Francis, por primera vez en muchos rounds, sacó uno-dos con algo de insistencia y se llevó un último asalto que pudo haber sido crucial.
Aunque a ambos les faltó mucho ritmo y tratar de imponer sus mayores virtudes de forma más firme, y si bien Francis no estuvo nada lejos aunque fuese del empate, el hecho es que Saracho logró explotar una cadencia de golpes ligeramente superior para impresionar más a los jueces y hacerse con un triunfo crucial. Y es que, continuando dejando atrás su única derrota ante Deonte Brown, Saracho encadena tres triunfos, dos de ellos en Estados Unidos y ante invictos, el último de los cuales además ante un clasificado mundial. Así, teniendo sólo 21 años y dándole acceso este triunfo a la lista WBO del peso superligero, parece que el mexicano está emplazado a importantes oportunidades en el futuro próximo.

American-Panamanian Cesar “Rainman” Francis 12(7KO)-1 was aiming for a high-level matchup at super lightweight after what he hoped would be a win over Mexican Jesús Saracho 13(11KO)-1(1). However, despite being the betting favorite and getting off to a good start, Francis had a weak second half and, in a bout that could have ended in a draw or in a one-round win for either fighter, the judges gave Saracho the unanimous decision victory with scores of reasonable 96-94, 96-94 and a 98-92 that does not correspond to what happened on the ring.
The southpaw Saracho tried to pressure the favorite, but early on Francis was very sharp counterpunching and landed solid straight right hands, the Mexican having some trouble late in the second round as he was apparently hurt by a couple of hooks down and subsequently received an offensive. After this success, Francis no longer moved or stepped back as much, but began to occupy the center of the ring using the jab looking for the opportunity to try to do damage with power shots. However, on the attack he did not find important results and missed quite a few hands, so he ended up focusing on counterpunching.
Since Saracho was not having enough successes and knew that his opponent wanted to counter him, and Francis waited and waited without throwing his hands, the fight for a while did not have much activity. That in theory favored «Rainman», but his very low punch rate served a more aggressive Saracho to, halfway through, end up finding the way to land good shots, highlighting several clear straight left hands. Francis began to bleed from the mouth and in the eighth round he even received dangerous combinations with his back to the ropes.
At that moment, the Mexican should have been more incisive, seeking to take advantage of the situation to try to achieve the clearest victory possible, but he gave the center of the ring to Francis and only attacked him with isolated and sporadic hands, although that was enough for him to continue his comeback. Despite this, Francis, for the first time in many rounds, connected one-twos with some insistence and won a last round that could have been crucial.
Although both lacked a lot of offensive activity and should tried to impose their best virtues in a more firm way, and although Francis was not far from at least a draw, the fact is that Saracho managed to exploit a slightly higher punch output than his opponent to impress more the judges and score a decisive win. In addition to continuing to leave behind his only defeat against Deonte Brown, Saracho strings three wins, two of them in the United States and against undefeated boxers, the last of which a world ranked fighter. Thus, being only 21 years old and gaining access to the WBO super lightweight list with this victory, it seems that the Mexican is set for important opportunities in the near future.
