El prometedor peso semipesado Atif Oberlton mostró buen control táctico en triunfo sobre Artem Brusov

El knockout no es ni mucho menos la única forma en la que un prospecto puede demostrar su potencial, sino que con una buena gestión táctica se puede poner de manifiesto tanto o más. Este fue el caso del estadounidense Atif Oberlton 8(6KO)-0, que no se dejó amedrentar por el buen inicio del ruso Artem Brusov 12(11KO)-1 y logró reaccionar siempre de la manera adecuada para tomar el control y merecer una victoria unánime con justas cartulinas de 78-74, 78-74 y 79-73.
En el primer round la presión de Brusov dio resultados, llevando hacia las cuerdas a su oponente y llegando contra él con ganchos y cortos rectos. Sin embargo, aunque en adelante Brusov siguió teniendo algunos momentos, el zurdo Oberlton fue lidiando mejor con los ataques ya fuese anticipándose con sus largos directos, contragolpeando con hooks abajo o simplemente entrando en clinch para cortar las ofensivas de su oponente.
La tendencia favorable a Oberlton se asentó, creando dificultades con su jab y sus directos al torso, atacando y contragolpeando con buenos izquierdazos y reduciendo cada vez mejor los éxitos de Brusov, al cual cada vez le costaba más entrar. El ruso necesitaba un cambio rápido si quería evitar la derrota, y en el quinto asalto movió más la cabeza, hombros y cintura antes de sus arremetidas y consiguió impactar algún golpe corto, pero tan pronto como en el siguiente episodio Oberlton volvió a crearle problemas con sus frecuentes jabs y sus contragolpes.
Así, Oberlton contuvo el amago de reacción de Brusov y selló su clara victoria en los dos últimos episodios con algún agresivo ataque con sus directos zurdos y con nuevos astutos jabs y contragolpes.
La división del peso semipesado no es sencilla, y en el futuro se encontrará retos que pondrán a prueba, entre otras cosas, su consistencia, pero Oberlton es un zurdo de 24 años con habilidad y que sabe competir, por lo que, aunque quizás no sea tanto un noqueador como algunos pensaban, podría llegar a convertirse en un púgil muy intrincado si se desarrolla de la manera correcta.

The knockout is by no means the only way in which a prospect can demonstrate his potential, since with good tactical management it can be shown as much or even more. This was the case of the American Atif Oberlton 8(6KO)-0, who was not intimidated by the good start of the Russian Artem Brusov 12(11KO)-1 and always managed to react in the correct way to take control and earn a victory by unanimous decision with fair scorecards of 78-74, 78-74 and 79-73.
In the first round Brusov’s pressure gave him positive results, driving his opponent to the ropes and hitting him with hooks and short straight punches. However, although later Brusov had his moments, the southpaw Oberlton soon dealt better with his attacks, whether it was punching first with his long straight hands, counter-punching with hooks down or simply clinching to cut off his opponent’s offensives.
The trend favorable to Oberlton settled, as the American created difficulties with his jab and his straight hands to the torso, attacked and counterattacked with good left hands and reduced Brusov’s successes better and better. The Russian, who was finding it increasingly difficult to close the distance, needed a change in order to avoid defeat, and in the fifth round he moved his head, shoulders and waist more before his lunges and managed to land some short punches. However, as soon as in the next round Oberlton created problems for him again with his frequent jab and his astute counterpunches.
Thus, Oberlton contained Brusov’s attempted reaction and sealed his clear victory in the last two rounds with some aggressive attacks with his straight left hands and new clever jabs and counterpunches answering his opponent’s advance.
The light heavyweight division is not easy, and there will be challenges ahead that will test, among other things, his consistency. But Oberlton is a skilled 24-year-old southpaw who knows how to compete, so while he may not be as much of a puncher as some thought, he could become a very tricky fighter if he develops the right way.
