Si en el último tramo del pasado año y en el principio de este no pudiste seguir la actualidad boxística más allá de los combates que se produjeron, a continuación encontrarás un breve resumen de algunas de las noticias más relevantes que han tenido lugar en estos días.
Aunque Óscar Rivas iba a pelear contra Efe Ajagba el 14 de enero, el primero sufrió su enésima lesión de ojo (ha tenido varias operaciones e incluso se le negó la licencia en California en 2016). Así, finalmente quien combatirá contra Ajagba será Stephan Shaw, quien iba a medirse a Guido Vianello. Por su parte, Vianello tendrá como rival a Jonathan Rice. Próximamente encontraréis en Bastión Boxeo una previa de este evento.
La lesión de Rivas, que le ha llevado a anunciar su retiro del boxeo, ha conllevado también que su “título” del peso puente quedase vacante. Por él pelearán Alen Babić y Lukasz Rozanski.
Sin dejar de hablar de cancelaciones, también se produjeron otras dos mucho más notables. Por un lado, Jermell Charlo se fracturó la mano izquierda en una sesión de sparring, de modo que su pugna para el 28 de enero ante Tim Tszyu espera una nueva fecha. Por el otro, el proyectado choque eliminatorio del peso wélter entre Eimantas Stanionis y Vergil Ortiz, programado tentativamente para el 18 de marzo, terminará produciéndose en una fecha posterior, ya que al primero se le tuvo que extraer el apéndice.
El periodo navideño dejó una sorprendente cadena de aplazamientos, ya que además de los mencionados, tuvieron lugar bastantes otros, entre ellos el del mundial WBC del peso crucero Ilunga Makabu vs. Noel Gevor (sin causa conocida), el de la eliminatoria IBF del peso semipesado Jean Pascal vs. Michael Eifert (Pascal está enfermo) y el del combate del peso wélter Adrien Broner vs. Ivan Redkach (en principio por los problemas con el peso del primero, nueva fecha 25 de febrero).
Dejando de lado estas noticias negativas para los intereses del boxeo, en las pasadas semanas se han confirmado varios eventos. Uno de ellos será el organizado por Top Rank el día 3 de febrero en Glendale y que contará con el mundial WBO del peso superpluma en juego, siendo los contendientes Emanuel Navarrete y Liam Wilson. En el semifondo se enfrentarán, en el peso superligero, José Pedraza y Arnold Barboza Jr.
Otra velada anunciada con un título mundial en juego será la que PBC ofrecerá desde San Antonio el día 11 de febrero y que estará encabezada por el mundial WBC del peso superpluma entre Rey Vargas y O’Shaquie Foster. PBC también organizará un evento el día 25 de febrero en Minneapolis que contará con el mundial IBF del peso superligero entre Subriel Matías y Jeremías Ponce.
Respecto a Matchroom Boxing, dicha promotora informó de que el día 4 de febrero, en Nueva York, ofrecerá una cartelera que contará con dos campeonatos indiscutidos femeninos, uno del peso pluma entre Amanda Serrano y Erika Cruz y el otro del peso superpluma entre Alycia Baumgardner y Elhem Mekhaled.
Otros choques que se producirán en los próximos meses serán el mundial WBO del peso crucero entre Lawrence Okolie y David Light (emitido por Sky el día 11 de marzo desde Londres), el mundial WBO del peso mosca entre Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez y Cristian González (8 de abril en San Antonio, emitido por DAZN), el combate del peso wélter Alexis Rocha vs. Anthony Young (Inglewood, 28 de enero, DAZN) o el duelo del peso pesado Joseph Parker vs. Jack Massey y el combate del peso crucero Richard Riakporhe vs. Krzysztof Glowacki en el respaldo del Eubank-Smith (21 de enero, Manchester, Sky).
Por otro lado, están en proceso de recibir fecha definitiva para su disputa, o de anunciarse oficialmente, el mundial WBA-IBF del peso supergallo Murodjon Akhmadaliev vs. Marlon Tapales (tentativamente para marzo o abril), la unificación del peso mínimo Seniesa Estrada vs. Tina Rupprecht (25 de marzo) y el combate del peso superligero entre las excampeonas mundiales Mikaela Mayer y Christina Linardatou, entre otros encuentros.
Finalmente, vale la pena mencionar que José Carlos Ramírez rechazó oficialmente enfrentarse al campeón mundial WBC del peso superligero Regis Prograis, del que era aspirante obligatorio. Según las normas del Consejo, la repartición de la bolsa iba a ser 75-25 a favor del campeón Prograis, aunque posteriormente el WBC retorció sus regulaciones para contentar a Ramírez, garantizándole un 10% extra con una repartición 65-35 a favor del monarca. Aun así, Ramírez, que sabe que es una pelea con mucho riesgo, señaló como excusa que, según él, merecía ganar más dinero y descartó el enfrentamiento.
Por lo tanto, Prograis encarará ahora una defensa voluntaria mientras el WBC busca un nuevo retador obligatorio.

If in the last stretch of last year and at the beginning of this one you couldn’t follow boxing news, below you will find a brief summary of some of the most relevant things that have occurred in the past weeks.
Although Óscar Rivas was going to fight Efe Ajagba on January 14, the former suffered his umpteenth eye injury (he has had several surgeries and was even denied a license in California in 2016).
