Shishkin-Uzcátegui and Potapov-Astrolabio eliminators will support Martin-Rivera in the last PBC evening of the year

A few days ago it was confirmed that the prospects Frank Martin and Michel Rivera will face each other in a very interesting lightweight duel that will take place on December 17 in the United States. The fight will therefore be part of the last evening of the year that Premier Boxing Champions will offer. However, it still remained to be known which other two matchups would complete the Showtime broadcast, something that has already been leaked.

As was first reported by Keith Idec, the duels will be two eliminators, one between Vladimir Shishkin and José Uzcátegui at super middleweight and the other between Nikolai Potapov and Vincent Astrolabio at bantamweight.

This choice of bouts is very strange considering the current global context. At a time when international tension is remarkably high and when analysts expect it to get worse in the near future, and when Russian boxers have been punished by the organizations because of their nationality, it is really strange that the main American boxing group closes its year putting two Russian fighters in the ring.

On the other hand, it is also strange that Uzcátegui, a boxer who tested positive in anti-doping control and who was taken out of an agreed fight against David Benavídez due to the protests by the fans, immediately receives another opportunity, on top of it in a semifinal eliminator…

Be that as it may, in the event that these fights take place, the co-feature clash will be a good opportunity to see how the promising Shishkin performs in his first fight under the spotlight, as for the moment he is convincing with his effective boxing despite not even having fifteen professional fights yet.

The clash between Potapov and Astrolabio will also be interesting, since the former, who suffered two controversial results in the United States, will have a great opportunity to regain momentum, and be within reach of a world championship against Emmanuel Rodríguez in 2023, if he manages to beat an opponent who comes from defeating Guillermo Rigondeaux.
