Stephanie Silva retuvo su título de campeona de Europa supermosca con meritoria victoria ante la invicta Pekalska

Después de que Maria Cecchi se estrellase completamente ante Mary Romero ofreciendo una actuación realmente pobre, Stephanie Silva 7(0KO)-0 se convirtió en la principal promesa femenina de la escuadra de OPI, posición que afianzó el viernes reteniendo su cinturón de campeona de Europa ante la invicta prospecta polaca Ewelina Pekalska 6(0KO)-1. El triunfo de Silva fue por decisión unánime y tarjetas justas de 97-93, 97-93 y 98-92.
En líneas generales, durante el primer tercio Pekalska, que tenía ventaja en altura y alcance y buena técnica, manejó bien sus directos para dificultar mucho el despliegue de la local. Sus uno-dos, sus directos diestros a la contra y eventuales hooks al torso en arremetida deteniendo sus desplazamientos laterales llegaron bien contra Silva, que no terminaba de encontrar la manera de acortar los espacios de forma consistente y que no tenía una eficacia suficiente.
Con todo, hacia la mitad la italiana ajustó, empezó a encontrar la manera de llegar con cortas series de rectos al ataque y además logró avanzar contragolpeando, por lo que conectó manos nítidas justo en un momento en que Pekalska se cansó visiblemente. Por otro lado, junto a una incrementada cadencia de golpes, Silva utilizó un sólido jab y una encomiable insistencia, siguiendo lanzando golpes cuando erraba sus manos en los cruces o cuando recibía un curvo. De ese modo, Silva pudo remontar el complicado inicio y terminó haciéndose con una merecida victoria.
Teniendo en cuenta que esta victoria fue un resultado meritorio ante una oponente muy exigente, y que fue una defensa de su cinturón continental, Silva debería empezar a aparecer en las listas de los organismos, si bien le queda todavía un largo camino por recorrer si quiere maximizar sus posibilidades de triunfo antes de retar a las monarcas de la división.

After Maria Cecchi offered a very poor performance against Mary Romero, Stephanie Silva 7(0KO)-0 became the top female prospect on the OPI squad, a position she strengthened on Friday by defending her European belt against the undefeated Polish prospect Ewelina Pekalska 6(0KO)-1. Silva’s victory was by unanimous decision and fair scorecards of 97-93, 97-93 and 98-92.
In general, during the first third Pekalska, who had an advantage in height and reach and good technique, used her straight punches well to make it very difficult for the local to deploy her boxing. Her one-twos, her counter right hands and eventual hooks to the torso stopping her sideways movement landed precisely against Silva, who couldn’t quite find a way to shorten spaces consistently and didn’t have a sufficient efficiency.
However, towards the half point of the fight the Italian adjusted, she began to find the way to connect short combinations of straight punches on the attack and also managed to counterpunch while advancing, so she landed crisp hands just at a time when Pekalska got visibly tired. On the other hand, along with an increased punching rate, Silva had a solid jab and commendable persistence, continuing to throw punches when she missed her hands on exchanges or when she received a hook. In this way, Silva came back after the difficult start and ended up scoring a deserved victory.
Taking into account that this victory was a meritorious result against a very demanding opponent, and that it was a defense of her continental belt, Silva should start appearing on the rankings of the organizations, although she still has a long way to go if she wants to maximize her chances of victory before challenging the titlists of the division.
