Mauricio “Bronco” Lara se deshizo en sólo tres rounds de José “El General” Sanmartín

Si se hubiese producido en septiembre un duelo entre Mauricio “Bronco” Lara 25(18KO)-2(1)-1 y Leigh Wood, el primero habría tenido una muy buena opción de victoria. Sin embargo, como Wood presuntamente se lesionó (todavía no ha dado pruebas de ello a la WBA), Lara se tuvo que conformar con un choque en el que mostró su nivel de amenaza derrotando en sólo tres rounds al colombiano José “El General” Sanmartín 33(21KO)-6(2)-1, que antes de este tropiezo sólo había sido batido antes del límite por “Vaquero” Navarrete y además en el duodécimo asalto.
Lara mostró su combatividad y su intención de intentar dar espectáculo llegando con claros curvos. La potencia del mexicano era muy superior a la de su contrincante, lo que, en una pugna con frecuentes cruces de golpes en la distancia corta y media, le daba simplemente un arma vital a su favor.
Así, después de que pareció que el local se llevaba la mejor parte ya en los primeros dos rounds, Lara puso de rodillas en la lona en el tercer round al “General” con un duro gancho diestro a la cabeza. Tras la reanudación, una serie de hooks de Lara (terminada con un duro hook zurdo) con su rival en las cuerdas llevó a Sanmartín de nuevo al tapiz y al tercer hombre a detener el choque.
Según afirma Eddie Hearn, su deseo es volver a poner en el calendario a continuación el choque entre Wood y Lara, aunque la WBA ha repetido y vuelto a repetir hasta la saciedad que Wood tiene que enfrentarse a continuación a Leo Santa Cruz, combate que lleva demasiados meses dando vueltas en los despachos sin concretarse. Si finalmente el Santa Cruz vs. Wood se disputa, a Lara se le tendrá que buscar un oponente de élite al que medirse, puesto que el boxeador ha afirmado que quiere pelear con un púgil de la cumbre y está mostrando tener el rendimiento necesario para encarar esa pelea con serias posibilidades de éxito.

If there had been a duel between Mauricio “Bronco” Lara 25(18KO)-2(1)-1 and Leigh Wood in September, the former would have had a very good chance of victory. However, as Wood was allegedly injured (he has not yet given proof of this to the WBA), Lara had to settle for a fight in which he showed his level of threat by defeating Colombian José «El General» Sanmartín 33(21KO)-6(2)-1 in just three rounds. Its worth noting that, Before this setback, Sanmartín had only been stopped by «Vaquero» Navarrete in the twelfth round.
Lara showed his combativeness and his intention to try to put on a show landing clear hooks. The power of the Mexican was far superior to that of his opponent, something that, in a fight with frequent exchanges in the short and medium distance, simply gave him a crucial weapon in his favor.
