El invicto Troy Williamson defenderá su cinturón británico superwélter ante Josh Kelly

Las empresas Probellum y Wasserman han confirmado oficialmente que el día 2 de diciembre, en el Newcastle Arena de Newcastle, Reino Unido, y televisado por Channel 5, se producirá un muy interesante campeonato británico del peso superwélter. Y es que el invicto monarca Troy “Trojan” Williamson 19(14KO)-0-1 se enfrentará al olímpico Josh “PBK” Kelly 12(7KO)-1-1 en un trascendental duelo para ambos.
En el caso de Williamson, tras un irregular recorrido, en el que sus flojas actuaciones ante Harry Scarff y Mason Cartwright se han visto intercaladas por una mayúscula victoria por knockout ante Ted Cheeseman, afrontará un combate ante un nombre muy conocido en las Islas Británicas y que podría llevarle, en caso de victoria, hasta aproximarse mucho al mundial por la WBO.
Por su parte, Kelly disputará su primer campeonato de ámbito nacional (Matchroom le llevó directamente por la vía internacional), en el cual tendrá una oportunidad de oro de relanzar su carrera, que en un principio resultaba prometedora pero que, después de su empate ante Ray Robinson y su derrota ante David Avanesyan, se ha ralentizado notablemente.
En la confirmación oficial, Williamson afirmó:
“Somos dos peleadores que ondeamos la bandera por el North East, pero sólo uno de nosotros sostiene el título británico. Todos los combates van a ser duros combates en este nivel, especialmente cuando hay cinturones en juego. Soy el campeón, estoy invicto, y no pienso que haya nada que pueda lanzarme que pueda parar mi reinado como rey del superwélter mientras avanzo a objetivos mayores y mejores. Una cosa es segura, y esa es que habrá fuegos artificiales”.
El retador Kelly señaló:
“Esta emplazado a ser uno de los mayores combates del North East en la memoria reciente, y se puede ver exactamente por qué. Troy es campeón británico por un motivo y él es obviamente un buen boxeador. Sin embargo, sólo es otro obstáculo en mi camino hacia conseguir lo que estoy destinado a lograr, y me encargaré de él el 2 de diciembre”.

The promotional companies Probellum and Wasserman have officially confirmed that on December 2, at the Newcastle Arena in Newcastle, United Kingdom, televised by Channel 5, a very interesting British super welterweight championship will take place. In it, the undefeated monarch Troy “Trojan” Williamson 19(14KO)-0-1 will face the Olympian Josh “PBK” Kelly 12(7KO)-1-1 in a crucial bout for both boxers.
In Williamson’s case, after an irregular advance, in which his poor performances against Harry Scarff and Mason Cartwright have been interspersed by a big knockout victory over Ted Cheeseman, he will battle a well-known name in the British Isles that could take him, in case of victory, close to the WBO world championship.
For his part, Kelly will face his first national championship (Matchroom took him directly through the international route), in which he will have a golden opportunity to boost his career, which at first was promising but, after his draw against Ray Robinson and his loss to David Avanesyan, has slowed down noticeably.
In the official announcement, Williamson stated:
“We’re two fighters flying the flag for the North East, but only one of us holds that British title. Every fight is going to be a tough fight at this level, especially when belts are on the line. I’m the champ, I’m undefeated, and I don’t think there’s anything he can throw at me that’ll stop my reign as super welterweight king as I move on to bigger and better things. One thing is for sure, and that’s fireworks.”
The challenger Kelly said:
“This is set to be one of the North East’s biggest fights in recent memory, and you can see exactly why. Troy is British Champion for a reason and he’s obviously a good fighter. However, he’s just another obstacle in the way of me achieving what I’m destined to achieve, and he’ll be taken care of on December 2.”
