El prospecto ruso del peso wélter Vitaly Petryakov 13(10KO)-0 afrontó una nueva pelea de desarrollo y adquisición de experiencia a diez rounds en una velada de Shamo Boxing. Su adversario para este fin, el zimbabuense Brendon Denes 9(6KO)-2(1), cumplió a la perfección su labor, generando trabajo y dificultades al invicto local. No obstante, aunque en un cierto momento pudo parecer que se iba a producir una sorpresa, Petryakov impuso su pegada para terminar ganando por KOT en el octavo round.
Desde el inicio Petryakov tomó la iniciativa y trató de presionar a Denes, que usó su agilidad y su velocidad de manos para intentar mantener a raya a su adversario con combinaciones de rectos o cruzados de ambas manos mientras se desplazaba. Durante el primer tercio, Denes pareció tener más éxito con su planteamiento que el local, que sólo impactaba aislados curvos y que no terminaba de encontrar su boxeo, cambiando de guardia diestra a zurda y subiendo y bajando las manos sin tener resultados favorables decisivos.
Aun así, Petryakov iba amenazando con sus golpes de poder y Denes cada vez tenía más confianza para tirar sus series parando los pies, de modo que, aunque el zimbabuense estaba imponiéndose en la pelea táctica, el ruso tenía un peligro latente. Pese a ello, durante otro tercio de combate la movilidad, las esquivas y el alcance del rápido Denes siguieron siendo elementos decisivos, pero Petryakov tuvo paciencia y continuó buscando la mano crucial.
En el séptimo round, con el visitante demasiado confiado, Petryakov sorprendió a su rival con abiertos cruzados y largos jabs, dejándole dañado posteriormente con duros ganchos. Este fue el principio del final, puesto que en el octavo asalto Denes se vio obligado a poner la rodilla en la lona por un gancho al torso que tuvo un efecto retardado. En la reanudación el visitante volvió a ser golpeado con puños al cuerpo antes de que un uppercut diestro le alcanzase agachado y le hiciese tocar la lona de nuevo. Entonces se produjo la detención arbitral.
La actuación de Petryakov evidenció madurez y calma ante la adversidad, sobre todo teniendo 21 años, pero su corte de ring no fue lo suficientemente eficaz, su cadencia de golpeo fue escasa y a sus ajustes les faltó mucha profundidad. De todos modos, la clave de este tipo de combates es precisamente que los prospectos puedan ver sus fallos y mejorar sus boxeos, siendo por lo tanto ahora lo esencial que el ruso y su equipo estudien la forma de hacerle más sólido, especialmente aprovechando su fortaleza y una base técnica que no es mala.

Russian welterweight prospect Vitaly Petryakov 13(10KO)-0 faced a new ten-round bout to develop and gain experience at an evening of Shamo Boxing. His opponent for this purpose, the Zimbabwean Brendon Denes 9(6KO)-2(1), perfectly fulfilled his mission, generating work and difficulties for the undefeated local. However, although at one point it seemed that an upset was possible, Petryakov imposed his punch to end up winning by TKO in the eighth round.
From the start Petryakov took the initiative and tried to put pressure on Denes, who used his agility and hand speed to keep him at bay through combinations of straight punches or counter hooks from both hands as he moved. During the first third, Denes seemed to have more success with his approach than the local, who only impacted isolated hooks and who wasn’t comfortable, changing from orthodox to southpaw and raising and lowering his hands without having decisive favorable results.
Still, Petryakov was threatening with his power shots and Denes was getting more and more confident to throw his punches stopping his feet so that, although the Zimbabwean was winning the tactical fight, the Russian had a latent danger. Despite this, for another third of the fight the mobility, the dodges and the reach of the speedy Denes remained decisive, but Petryakov was patient and continued to search for a crucial hand.
In the seventh round, with the visitor clearly too confident, Petryakov stunned his opponent with wide hooks and long jabs, hurting him later with new power punches. This was the beginning of the end, as in the eighth round Denes was forced to put a knee on the canvas by a hook to the body that had a delayed effect. At the restart the visitor was again hit with body shots before a right uppercut caught him crouched and made him touch the canvas again. Then the referee stopped the bout.
Petryakov’s performance showed above all maturity and calmness in the face of adversity, especially being 21 years old, but his ring cut was not effective enough, his punching rate was low and his adjustments lacked depth. In any case, the key of this type of fight is precisely that the prospects can see their flaws and improve their boxing, therefore it is now essential that the Russian and his team analyze how to make him more solid, especially taking advantage of his strength and a technical base that is not bad.
