El plan del exretador mundial del peso semipesado Maxim Vlasov 46(26KO)-5(1) era simplemente realizar una pelea de preparación ante el ruso-kirguiso Dilmurod “Little Mike” Satybaldiev 13(4KO)-2 antes de una mayúscula pugna en la segunda mitad del año. Sin embargo, las cosas no salieron como esperaba Vlasov, sino que, en el semifondo del Papin-Prasović, fue derrotado totalmente contra pronóstico a manos del fuerte pero poco rodado Satybaldiev, que sólo había peleado un round desde 2017.
Satybaldiev tenía una muy importante desventaja en dimensiones (16 cm de altura menos), algo que trató de compensar a base de salteados y explosivos golpes de poder curvos, conectando algún buen cruzado diestro a la cabeza inicialmente. No obstante, Vlasov realizaba un trabajo más consistente con sus series de rectos o con sus cruzado-directo, por lo que, cayendo ambos a menudo en clinches, pudo decantar los asaltos con su cadencia.
De todos modos, que el exretador mundial estuviese ganando la mayoría de los primeros rounds no implicaba que la pelea fuese cómoda. Y es que cometiendo el grave error de aceptar quedarse en el centro del ring y en la distancia corta y media-corta con su fortísimo y aguerrido oponente, permitió que Satybaldiev impactase contundentes hooks arriba y abajo o cortos rectos que eran peligrosos. De hecho, en el cuarto asalto Satybaldiev le estremeció con un gancho zurdo y le castigó con andanadas de ganchos antes de impactar un hook al hígado que llevó al tapiz a Vlasov.
Tirando el bucal durante la cuenta del árbitro, Vlasov ganó unos segundos y posteriormente logró resistir el final del round, mientras que en el quinto asalto salió recuperado, logrando conectar buenas combinaciones directo-cruzado que sacudieron un tanto al ruso-kirguiso. No obstante esta reacción se vio cortada en el sexto episodio, cuando un fuerte choque de cabezas provocó una brecha en Vlasov que hizo que la sangre brotase como una cascada desde su frente. Al terminar el asalto el púgil llegó a su esquina en un estado que no parecía precisamente óptimo, y su equipo decidió que no siguiese en el comienzo del séptimo episodio.
El corte y el cabezazo fueron decisivos y muy desafortunados, pero Vlasov había puesto inconscientemente las bases para su derrota aceptando una pelea física en el centro del ring a pesar de que con su intrincada habilidad y su 1,92 m (6′ 3½″) podría haber controlado con sus directos a un Satybaldiev de 1,76 m (5′ 9½″) y que con su falta de ring reciente habría tenido complicado sostener diez asaltos de presión.
Sea como sea, Vlasov recibe un crucial revés que, en retrospectiva, todavía hace más ofensivo el robo que padeció en Estados Unidos ante Joe Smith Jr., que le habría permitido coronarse campeón mundial y haber seguido un camino muy diferente en su carrera. Por otro lado, Satybaldiev debería recibir nuevas propuestas para hacer de piedra de toque de buenos peso semipesado e intentar lograr bolsas y la actividad que no ha tenido en los últimos años.

The plan of former world light heavyweight challenger Maxim Vlasov 46(26KO)-5(1) was to have a tune-up fight against Russian-Kyrgyz Dilmurod “Little Mike” Satybaldiev 13(4KO)-2 before a major fight in the second half of the year. However, things did not go as expected for Vlasov, but rather he suffered a big upset against the strong but inactive Satybaldiev, who had only fought one round since 2017.
Satybaldiev had a very significant disadvantage in size (16 cm or 6” shorter), something that he tried to compensate with sporadic and explosive attacks with power shots, landing some good right hooks to the head initially. However, Vlasov did a more consistent work with his straight punches or with his combinations left hook-right hand so, in a fight with some clinching, he was able to win the rounds with his output.
In any case, that the former world challenger was winning most of the first rounds did not imply that the bout was comfortable for him. Making the serious mistake of staying in the center of the ring and in the short and medium-short range against a very strong and brave opponent, allowed Satybaldiev to land forceful hooks up and down or short straight punches that were dangerous. In fact, in the fourth round Satybaldiev rocked him with a left hook and punished him with combinations of hooks before connecting a hook to the liver that put Vlasov in the mat.
Throwing the mouthpiece during the referee’s count, Vlasov won a few seconds and later managed to resist the end of the round, while in the fifth round he came out recovered, landing some good combinations that shook somewhat the Russian-Kyrgyz. However, that reaction was cut short in the sixth episode, when a hard clash of heads caused a cut in Vlasov’s forehead which bleed like a cascade. At the end of the round, the fighter went to his corner in a bad state, and his team decided that he should not continue at the beginning of the seventh round.
The cut and the accidental headbutt were decisive and very unfortunate, but Vlasov had unwittingly laid the groundwork for his defeat by accepting a physical fight in the center of the ring despite the fact that with his tricky boxing and his height (1.92 m or 6′ 3½″) he could have controlled with his straight punches a shorter boxer (1.76 m or 5′ 9½″) that would have had very difficult to sustain ten rounds of pressure due to his ring rust.
Be that as it may, Vlasov suffered a crucial setback that, retrospectively, makes worst the robbery he suffered against Joe Smith Jr., which would have allowed him to be crowned world champion and following a very different path in his career. On the other hand, Satybaldiev should get new offers to test good light heavyweights and try to get the purses and activity that he has not had in recent years.
