Savannah Marshall y Claressa Shields firman contrato para pelea por la corona indiscutida del peso medio

Desde hace meses estaba previsto que en julio la británica Savannah Marshall, monarca WBO, y la estadounidense Claressa Shields, campeona WBA, WBC e IBF, se enfrentasen en una unificación total del peso medio, combate para el que se ha ido creando expectación con peleas de rodaje para ambas y cruces de palabras en directo. Sin embargo, una lesión de Marshall en uno de sus brazos (que requirió una pequeña cirugía), impidió que el choque pudiese producirse en el momento previsto.
No obstante, el enfrentamiento ni mucho menos ha desaparecido del calendario, sino que el promotor Ben Shalom, líder de la compañía Boxxer, ha informado de que las boxeadoras han firmado ya el contrato para la pelea, que se producirá en septiembre y en Reino Unido. Por el momento la sede está todavía por determinar, aunque se sabe que se producirá en Londres o Newcastle.
Sea como sea, este ya es un detalle menor respecto a la muy positiva noticia de que todo está en orden para uno de los mayores combates posibles en el boxeo femenino. Y es que en él dos top 10 libra por libra pelearán por convertirse en una insigne figura, todo ello a la vez que se coronará a la cuarta monarca indiscutida de la actualidad, uniéndose a Katie Taylor (peso ligero), Jessica McCaskill (peso wélter) y Franchon Crews-Dezurn (peso supermedio).
Por otro lado, el evento sigue consolidando la expansión de Boxxer, que esta semana ha tenido notable actividad, confirmando una velada para el 25 de junio y alcanzándose acuerdos para la eliminatoria del peso pesado Michael Hunter vs. Hughie Fury y, ahora, para el Marshall-Shields.

Months ago, it was planned that in July the British Savannah Marshall, WBO monarch, and the American Claressa Shields, WBA, WBC and IBF champion, would face each other in a total unification of the middleweight division, a clash for which has been created expectation with tune-up bouts for both boxers and live exchanges of words. However, an injury in one of Marshall’s arms (which required a minor surgery), prevented the championship from taking place at the planned date.
However, the confrontation has not disappeared from the calendar, since the promoter Ben Shalom, leader of Boxxer, has officially confirmed that the boxers have already signed the contract for the fight, which will take place in September and in the United Kingdom. At the moment the venue is yet to be determined, although it is known that it will take place in London or Newcastle.
Be that as it may, this is already a small detail compared to the very positive news that everything is in order for one of the biggest possible fights in female boxing. In it two top 10 pound for pound will battle to become a star in women’s pugilism, while the fourth current undisputed titlist will be crowned, joining Katie Taylor (lightweight), Jessica McCaskill (welterweight) and Franchon Crews-Dezurn (super middleweight).
On the other hand, the event continues to consolidate Boxxer’s expansion, company which this week has had notable activity, confirming an evening for June 25 and reaching deals for the heavyweight eliminator Michael Hunter vs. Hughie Fury and for the unification Marshall-Shields.
