El 4º WBA del peso superwélter Kerman Lejarraga padeció una decisiva derrota a manos del británico James Metcalf, que tuvo la actuación más inteligente de su trayectoria para lograr una decisión unánime. En el semifondo, Jairo Noriega mostró nuevamente su proyección derribando dos veces y obteniendo una amplia victoria unánime en un campeonato de Europa mosca ante al exaspirante mundial Ángel Moreno.

Antes de estos combates dos púgiles lograron convincentes victorias, siendo uno de ellos el peso wélter Jon Míguez, que derrotó por KO en el sexto a James Moorcroft, y el otro el peso supergallo Fran Mendoza, que venció por amplia decisión unánime a Alexander Mejía.

En cuanto a la cartelera de Frank Warren, el peso supergallo Brad Foster, lejos de alejarse de su primera derrota, padeció un nuevo tropiezo ante Ionut Baluta que, en una pelea embarradísima, se anotó una nueva victoria contra pronóstico como visitante.

Unas horas más tarde se inició el torneo Last Chance de la promotora ProBox Promotions. En una de las semifinales se enfrentarán Antonio Morán y Michael Dutchover, puesto que estos boxeadores vencieron sus combates de cuartos de final ante Jeffrey Torres y Clarence Booth, respectivamente.

En la otra semifinal se medirán Kendo Castañeda y Joseph Fernández. El primero logró una victoria por KO en el primer round sobre Sonny Fredrickson, mientras que Fernández superó por cuestionable decisión unánime a Zhimin Wang.

La pelea estelar de este evento dejó una derrota del peso semipesado chino Fanlong Meng, que perdió su posición como aspirante obligatorio de Artur Beterbiev a causa de una polémica decisión unánime ante Jean Pascal, que utilizó muchas marrullerías (con la permisividad del árbitro) y a quien se le contabilizó a su favor un knockdown inexistente.

El viernes dejó también estos otros resultados:
-El exmonarca mundial Yukinori Oguni 21(8KO)-2(2)-2 no tuvo un exitoso retorno, puesto que su combate contra Keita Kurihara 16(14KO)-6(3)-1 terminó en un empate técnico. Así que Oguni necesitará una nueva subida al ring para sumar rounds de rodaje y reemprender su camino hacia la parte alta.
-El peso wélter polaco Tomasz Nowicki 10(3KO)-1(1) padeció una derrota por KOT en el quinto asalto ante el británico Louis Greene 14(8KO)-3(1), que de ese modo logró un segundo gran triunfo como visitante en Polonia. En cambio, el peso superligero Damian Wrzesinski 25(7KO)-2-2 derrotó por decisión unánime (99-91 y doble 98-92) a Ismail Galiatano 10(2KO)-4(1)-3.
-El peso crucero neozelandés Jerome “Panther” Pampellone 12(6KO)-0 superó su test ante Nikolas Charalampous 20(9KO)-6(1) con una decisión unánime, si bien el combate fue a seis asaltos y todavía necesita mucha experiencia.
-El enfrentamiento entre los peso superligero Kenny Robles 9(3KO)-2 y James Bernardin 7(4KO)-0-1 terminó con una importante victoria unánime (doble 79-73 y 78-74) del segundo, que debería verse impulsado hacia nuevas adecuadas oportunidades para desarrollarse y tratar de agrandar sus aspiraciones.

La velada británica de Matchroom Boxing terminó con Joshua Buatsi ganando por ajustada decisión unánime una exigente eliminatoria WBA del peso semipesado ante Craig Richards.

En la pugna coestelar, la campeona unificada del peso superligero Chantelle Cameron logró una amplia victoria unánime ante la voluntariosa Victoria Bustos. Por su parte, el agresivo peso puente Alen Babić llegó por primera vez a una decisión de los jueces en su victoria unánime sobre Adam Balski, en la cual el croata se tuvo que levantar de la lona.

La cartelera principal del Buatsi-Richards se inició con una buena victoria unánime de la prospecta supergallo Ellie Scotney sobre la excampeona María Cecilia Román, mientras que el peso superligero Robbie Davies Jr. a duras penas consiguió una controvertida victoria por decisión dividida ante Javier Molina.

Pasando al evento de PBC, David Benavídez aplastó en tres asaltos a David Lemieux, capturado un título interino WBC del peso supermedio que le convierte en aspirante obligatorio de Canelo.

En el respaldo, el cubano Yoelvis Gómez usó su fuerza y tamaño para superar claramente con sus ofensivas a un Jorge Cota conservador, pero pese a su victoria unánime su planteamiento fue simplista, precipitado y con evidentes desajustes técnicos. Antes de esa pelea, el peso pluma dominicano Luis Núñez logró un valioso triunfo por decisión unánime en una buena contienda ante el jovencísimo mexicano Jonathan Fierro.

El evento de Top Rank dejó la coronación de otro titular interino, puesto que el cetro WBO interino del peso medio fue conquistado por el kazajo Zhanibek Alimkhanuly con un sensacional knockout en el segundo asalto sobre el británico Danny Dignum. Ahora Alimkhanuly es retador obligatorio de Demetrius Andrade.

Acompañando a este combate, el excampeón mundial Jamel Herring padeció una crucial derrota para su carrera ante el invicto Jamaine Ortiz, que ganó por decisión unánime, mientras que el olímpico “Tiger” Johnson batió por KOT en el tercer round a Agustín Kucharski.

La exnúmero 1 el peso ligero Delfine Persoon 47(19KO)-3(1) derrotó por decisión unánime (97-93, 97-94 y 96-94) a la invicta Elhem Mekhaled 15(3KO)-1, meritorio triunfo que además llegó sobre la 2ª WBC y con un título menor en juego. Por ello, y añadiéndose el prestigio que ya poseía antes, parece que Persoon podría situarse realmente cerca de aspirar al mundial contra la monarca Alycia Baumgardner.
También se produjo en la jornada la victoria por abandono en el quinto round del invicto peso pesado Zhan Kossobutskiy 18(17KO)-0 sobre el veterano Johann Duhaupas 39(26KO)-7(4) y el triunfo por decisión del peso ligero Dzmitry Asanau 3(2KO)-0 ante Marcos Villasana Jr. 27(16KO)-7(1). El campeonato de la Unión Europea del peso superpluma se resolvió de la manera prevista, con el campeón español Juan Félix “El Mago” Gómez 12(2KO)-0 imponiéndose por decisión unánime (120-107 y doble 118-109) al aspirante francés Anthony “El Guerrero” Riviere 10(2KO)-3(1)-1.
Teniendo en cuenta la situación del cinturón de campeón de Europa superpluma (en posesión de Farkoukh Kourbanov, que lo defenderá ante Zelfa Barrett) y que virtualmente sólo tiene por delante en el ranking a un Jono Carroll centrado en otros objetivos, Gómez podría estar muy cerca de la disputa del europeo. De todos modos, quizás podría afrontar alguna defensa más de su título UE para expandir su experiencia y maximizar sus posibilidades futuras.
Para finalizar con los resultados, se pueden mencionar estos otros:
-La peso mínimo alemana Sarah Bormann 14(7KO)-0 consiguió una amplísima victoria unánime (triple 100-89) ante la veterana mexicana Ana Arrazola 28(14KO)-14(1)-3, éxito significativo que debería llevarle a intentar perseguir un título de un organismo reconocido.
-El peso medio irlandés Connor Coyle 16(7KO)-0 evitó la sorpresa ante el estadounidense Antonio Todd 13(7KO)-6(2), aunque por poco, ya que sólo venció de forma dividida (96-94, 97-93 y 94-96), si bien sumó rounds de experiencia útil.
-El extitular mundial nicaragüense Félix Alvarado 38(33KO)-2 empezó su nuevo recorrido en el peso mosca batiendo por KO en el cuarto asalto al mexicano Luis Cerrito Hernández 10(6KO)-6(2)-1, mientras que el peso supermosca Winston “El Fantasma” Guerrero 17(11KO)-0 sumó una buena victoria unánime (triple 80-71) sobre Misael Gracia 15(10KO)-(1)-2.
-El combate del peso medio entre los argentinos Jonathan Wilson Sánchez 21(9KO)-5(1)-1 y Martín Ezequiel Bulacio 10(7KO)-6(2) se resolvió con una victoria por decisión unánime (doble 98-92 y un 97-93) del primero, que se situó en una racha de tres victorias desde su derrota por KO ante “El Cuervo” Silva.

The 4th WBA super welterweight Kerman Lejarraga suffered a decisive defeat against James Metcalf, who had the smartest performance of his career to earn a unanimous decision. In the co-feature, Jairo Noriega once again showed his projection by knocking down twice and achieving a wide unanimous victory in an European flyweight championship against former world challenger Ángel Moreno. Before these fights, two fighters achieved convincing victories, one of them being the welterweight Jon Míguez, who defeated James Moorcroft by KO in the sixth, and the other the super bantamweight Fran Mendoza, who beat Alexander Mejía by wide unanimous decision. Read more following the link.

-Former world champion Yukinori Oguni 21(8KO)-2(2)-2 did not have a successful comeback, as his fight against Keita Kurihara 16 (14KO)-6(3)-1 ended in a technical draw. So, Oguni will need a new bout to add rounds and resume his way to the top.
-Polish Welterweight Tomasz Nowicki 10(3KO)-1(1) suffered a fifth-round TKO loss against the British boxer Louis Greene 14(8KO)-3(1), who achieved a second big win in Poland. As for the super lightweight Damian Wrzesinski 25(7KO)-2-2, he defeated Ismail Galiatano 10(2KO)-4(1)-3 by unanimous decision (99-91 and double 98-92).
-New Zealander cruiserweight Jerome “Panther” Pampellone 12(6KO)-0 passed his test against Nikolas Charalampous 20 (9KO)-6(1) with a unanimous decision, although it was a six-rounder and he still needs a lot of experience.

The Matchroom Boxing evening concluded with Joshua Buatsi’s narrow unanimous decision win against Craig Richards in a demanding WBA light heavyweight eliminator. Read more following the link.
In the co-main event, unified super lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron obtained a wide unanimous decision win over the willful Victoria Bustos. For his part, the aggressive bridgerweight Alen Babić reached a decision for the first time in his career in his unanimous decision victory over Adam Balski, in the which the Croatian had to get up from the canvas. On the main undercard, former world champion Jamel Herring suffered a crucial loss for his career against the undefeated Jamaine Ortiz, who won by unanimous decision, while the Olympian “Tiger” Johnson beat Agustín Kucharski by TKO in the third round. Read more following the link.

The European Union super featherweight championship ended as expected, with the Spaniard Juan Félix “El Mago” Gómez 12(2KO)-0 defeating the French challenger Anthony Riviere 10(2KO)-3(1)-1 by unanimous decision (120-107 and double 118-109).
Given the situation of the European super featherweight belt (in possession of Farkoukh Kourbanov, who will defend it against Zelfa Barrett) and that he is virtually the best ranked boxer, Gómez could be very close to the European championship. Still, he should face one more EU title defense to gain experience and maximize his future chances before accessing the fight for the main continental title.
