Muchas veces se dice que en el boxeo hay que usar la cabeza, pero alguien debió decirle al británico Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington 31(8KO)-1(1)-1 que esta expresión es metafórica y no literal. Y es que Warrington, sabiendo que estaba en un choque complicado y en el que podía tener desventajas estilísticas, dio cabezazos deliberados de forma constante y usó todo tipo de trampas para provocar media decena de cortes en Kiko “La Sensación” Martínez 43(30KO)-10(4)-2 y ganar por deslucidísimo KOT en el séptimo round.
El británico tuvo un buen arranque, manteniendo la distancia antes de atacar con duros hooks con los que llevó a las cuerdas a Martínez. Algo más tarde, Warrington asestó un tremendo cabezazo que dejó dolorido y muy confundido a Martínez, quien padeció además un serio corte y que poco después fue llevado a lona por un cruzado diestro. Tras pasar por apuros en el final del primer asalto, y ganar tiempo astutamente, el campeón alcanzó el segundo round, en el que de nuevo fue movido por los golpes de poder en hook de “The Leeds Warrior”. Con todo, Martínez también comenzó a llegar entonces con peligrosos uppercuts.
Aunque tenía muchas dificultades para ver por la sangre que caía sobre su ojo izquierdo, Martínez presionó en el tercer episodio, llegando con algunos buenos curvos, si bien en el cuarto fue empujado con el hombro y cabeceado contra las cuerdas constantemente por Warrington ante la permisividad del árbitro británico. Con cortes en ambos párpados y en la nariz, “La Sensación” siguió intentando presionar valiente en el quinto episodio, impactando buenos uppercuts y hooks, pero el local le alcanzó con derechas a la contra en el sexto episodio, además de utilizar nuevamente infinidad de irregularidades, especialmente deliberados cabezazos, uno de los cuales provocó una nueva brecha en la frente de Martínez.
En el séptimo asalto, sangrando por ambos párpados (y desde puntos diferentes), nariz y frente por los innumerables cabezazos de Warrington, y cansado por sus empujones, golpes de antebrazo y puños en la nuca, Martínez fue llevado contra las cuerdas, donde recibió una serie de rectos que aprovechó el árbitro local para detener el combate y decretar el KOT.
Difícilmente habría podido lograr Warrington una victoria más repulsiva y deslucida, pero sin duda Eddie Hearn y su fábrica propagandística la convertirá en una actuación extraordinaria, o incluso épica. Así, lo que le queda al contrato de Warrington será aprovechado para pactar duelos muy rentables para Matchroom, que sabe que el púgil puede haber entrado en una cuesta abajo en su carrera pero que sabrá exprimirlo de la manera más adecuada para sus intereses.

It is often said that in boxing you have to use your head, but someone must have told British Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington 31(8KO)-1(1)-1 that this expression is metaphorical and not literal. Warrington, knowing that he was in a complicated clash in which he could have stylistic disadvantages, constantly and deliberately headbutted and used all kinds of dirty tactics to cause five cuts in Kiko “La Sensación” Martínez 43(30KO)-10(4)-2 and achieve a seventh-round TKO win.
The British had a good start, keeping his distance before attacking with hard hooks that took Martinez to the ropes. A little later, Warrington headbutted with tremendous force Martinez, who was hurt and very confused, suffered a serious cut and was shortly after taken to the canvas by a right hook. After struggling at the end of the first round, and cunningly buying time, the champion reached the second round, in which he was again shook by power shots of “The Leeds Warrior”. However, Martinez also began to connect then dangerous uppercuts.
Although he had great difficulty seeing due to the blood that fell on his left eye, Martínez pressed in the third episode, hitting his rival with some good hooks, although in the fourth he was pushed with the shoulder and headbutted against the ropes constantly by Warrington, who was helped by the permissiveness of the British referee. With cuts on both eyelids and on his nose, «La Sensación» continued trying to put pressure bravely in the fifth round, landing good uppercuts and hooks, but the local countered with right hands in the sixth round, in addition to again using countless illegalities, especially deliberate headbutts, one of which caused a new gash in Martinez’s forehead.
In the seventh round, bleeding from both eyelids (and from different points), nose, and forehead from Warrington’s innumerable headbutts, and exhausted from his shoves, forearm blows, and punches to the back of the head, Martinez was taken to the ropes, where he received a combination of straight shots that the local referee used to stop the fight.
Warrington couldn’t have had a more repulsive and ugly victory, but no doubt Eddie Hearn and his propaganda mill will turn it into an extraordinary, if not epic, performance. Thus, what remains of Warrington’s contract will be used to agree very profitable duels for Matchroom, company that knows that the fighter may have entered a downhill in his career but will know how to squeeze it in the most appropriate way for their interests.
