Si el resultado del Mimoune-Francis resultó sorprendente e indignante, esto no fue nada comparado con el choque estelar de la velada kazaja de MTK Global. En ese enfrentamiento los jueces le dieron la victoria dividida al kazajo Ray Seitzhanov 10(6KO)-0 sobre el invicto mexicano José “El Increíble” Macías 15(7KO)-1-2 aunque resultaría generoso darle tres asaltos al local. Las puntuaciones de este horrendo robo fueron de doble 95-94 y un 94-95, en las que se cuenta la pérdida de un punto por parte de Seitzhanov.
El enfrentamiento se abrió con intercambios, puesto que Seitzhanov no pudo mantener los espacios y Macías salió muy agresivo. El kazajo intentó añadir más movilidad en el segundo round, y también más clinches, pero aunque llegó con algunos rectos certeros Macías siguió presionando con peligrosos ganchos que continuaron siendo acciones ofensivas superiores a las del local. Y es que, aunque a veces Seitzhanov impactó hooks en corta bien ejecutados, estos éxitos eran contestados pronto por nítidos directos diestros y, sobre todo, excelentes ganchos zurdos en buen número.
Por momentos, el kazajo quedó situado contra las cuerdas y recibió fuertes golpes de poder que parecieron amenazar con hacerle sucumbir, pero el imbatido resistió los puños y continuó intentando responder. Aun así, su trabajo continuó siendo, en general, insuficiente, siendo su acción más “efectiva” un hook ilegalmente bajo que hizo al dolorido Macías agacharse. Con todo, no se produjo descuento de punto en ese momento a Seitzhanov por estas y otras irregularidades. El local tiró de fortaleza para resistir y continuar intentando conectar sus manos, pero igualmente padeció las acciones ofensivas más significativas de los asaltos.
El mexicano parecía estar encaminándose a paso firme hacia la victoria, dado que su precisión y su claridad con los golpes de poder siguieron siendo los factores determinantes ante un Seitzhanov que se garraba cada vez más pero que no pudo evitar verse sacudido por contundentes puños. Es justo decir que el kazajo merece crédito por soportar castigo que a muchos otros les habría hecho derrumbarse, pero por lo demás, estaba siendo inferior, en el octavo asalto perdió un punto por reiteración en los golpes bajos y su reacción final (acompañada por golpes en la nuca y muchos agarres) llegó demasiado tarde. Así, tras los diez episodios podría haber discusión sobre si merecía más o menos rounds, pero en ningún caso sobre si merecía la victoria, que debió haber ido del lado de Macías.
Como tantas otras veces, al valorase mal el grado de desarrollo de un prospecto se le sitúa delante un boxeador para el que no está preparado y los jueces deciden ayudarle para que no pierda su invicto. De todos modos, esta vez se fue incluso más allá de lo habitual, puesto que Macías debería haber logrado una amplia victoria unánime y el veredicto de los jueces fue un insulto a la inteligencia y una muestra de su localismo (los tres eran kazajos).
Teniendo los púgiles 23 y 22 años, todavía les queda toda su carrera por delante, de modo que Seitzhanov podría mejorar después de esta lección recibida y el resultado no será una debacle para Macías, que tiene mucho potencial. Con todo, el triunfo podría haber impulsado las aspiraciones del mexicano de forma muy importante y sólo la corrupción le ha alejado de lograr su segundo triunfo consecutivo como visitante y de alcanzar a continuación una gran oportunidad.
Kunkabayev venció a remplazo
El peso crucero, bronce olímpico, Kamshybek Kunkabayev 5(4KO)-0 finalmente no afrontó un test contra el fogueado Johnny Muller, sino un rodaje ante un modesto sustituto, el uzbeko Farrukh Juraev 6(2KO)-6(1)-1, que perdió en el segundo round.
Juraev se vio conducido hacia las cuerdas por la calmada presión del zurdo Kunkabayev, que fue midiendo a su contrincante con sus rectos y ganchos diestros (y evitando alguna eventual arremetida) antes de que en el segundo round desbordase a su oponente con combinaciones de cruzados. Dado que Juraev, encerrado, no tenía respuesta, ni muchas ganas de combatir, el árbitro detuvo el enfrentamiento.

If the result of the Mimoune-Francis was surprising and outrageous, it was nothing compared to the main clash of MTK Global’s Kazakh evening. In that confrontation, the judges gave the Kazakh Ray Seitzhanov 10(6KO)-0 a split decision victory over the undefeated Mexican José “El Increíble” Macías 15(7KO)-1-2, although it would be generous to give the local three rounds. The scores for this horrendous robbery were a double 95-94 and a 94-95, included in them a point deduction for Seitzhanov.
The bout opened with exchanges, since Seitzhanov could not keep the distance and Macías came out very aggressive. The Kazakh tried to add more mobility, and also more clinches, in the second round, but although he arrived with some accurate straight punches, Macías put pressure with dangerous hooks that continued to be superior offensive actions to those of the local. Sometimes Seitzhanov connected well-executed short hooks, but these successes were soon answered by sharp right hands and, above all, excellent left hooks in good quantity.
At times, the Kazakh was put on the ropes and received strong power shots that threatened to hurt him, but the undefeated resisted the punches and tried to answer. Even so, his work continued to be, on the whole, insufficient, with his most “effective” action being an illegally low hook. However, there was no point deduction to Seitzhanov for these and other irregularities. The local used his good chin and kept trying to connect his hands, but he suffered the most significant offensive actions of the rounds.
The Mexican seemed to be heading towards victory, as his precision and clarity with his power shots continued to be the determining factors against Seitzhanov, who clinched more and more but could not avoid being shook by hard hands. It’s fair to say that the Kazakh deserves credit for enduring punishment that would have brought many others to their knees, but he was having an inferior performance than his rival, he lost a point in the eighth round for repeated low blows and his final reaction (accompanied by shots on the back of the neck and many holds) came too late. Thus, after the ten episodes there could be a discussion about whether he deserved more or less rounds, but in no case about whether he deserved the victory, that should have gone to Macías’ side.
Like so many other times, when the degree of development of a prospect is poorly assessed, a boxer for whom he is not prepared is placed in front of him. So then the judges decide to help him so that he does not lose his unbeaten record. Anyway, this time it went even further than usual, since Macías should have achieved a wide unanimous victory and the verdict of the judges was an insult to intelligence and a sign of their localism (all three were Kazakhs).
With the fighters being 23 and 22 years old, they still have their entire career ahead of them, so Seitzhanov could improve after this lesson received and the result will not be a disaster for Macías, who has a lot of potential. All in all, the win could have boosted the Mexican’s aspirations in a very important way and only corruption has kept him from achieving his second successive win on the road and reaching a great opportunity.
Kunkabayev defeated replacement
The Olympic bronze medalist Kamshybek Kunkabayev 5(4KO)-0 finally did not face a test against the experienced Johnny Muller, but a tune-up against the substitute Farrukh Juraev 6(2KO)-6(1)-1, who lost in the second round.
Juraev was driven to the ropes by the calm pressure of southpaw Kunkabayev, who measured his opponent with his straight punches and right hooks (and avoided eventual attacks) before in the second round overwhelm his opponent with hooks. Since a cornered Juraev had no answer, nor much desire to fight, the referee stopped the confrontation.
