Hace poco menos de un mes, la WBO dio el visto bueno para que el campeón mundial del peso medio Demetrius Andrade pelease por un título interino WBO en el peso supermedio sin tener que dejar vacante el cetro que poseía. Asimismo, como con ello se había aplazado el acceso al mundial obligatorio al que tenía derecho Janibek Alimkhanuly, se ordenó una pelea por título interino WBO en el peso medio entre el citado púgil kazajo y Esquiva Falcao.

Pues bien, Falcao, que ganó una eliminatoria IBF y que espera una oportunidad titular contra Golovkin, ha terminado rechazando la pelea interina WBO, de modo que la Organización ha tenido que proponer el combate contra Alimkhanuly a otro candidato, que ha sido el número 1 del ranking Jaime Munguía. En la carta oficial emitida por la WBO se ha señalado que los equipos de ambos boxeadores tienen 10 días para alcanzar un acuerdo o que, de lo contrario, se irá a una subasta con puja mínima de 200.000 dólares.
El invicto Alimkhanuly, oro mundial amateur, es un boxeador muy peligroso pero todavía insuficientemente conocido por el público, por lo que muchos consideran improbable que Munguía vaya a aceptar este enfrentamiento. Asimismo, se debe tener en cuenta que Munguía tiene derecho a una eliminatoria WBC del peso medio contra Carlos Adames, un boxeador que tiene muchas más brechas y que parece mucho más batible que Alimkhanuly.
Por lo tanto, aunque habrá que esperar unos días para ver cómo se resuelve el asunto, no sería sorprendente si la WBO terminase teniendo que buscar a un nuevo contendiente para que se midiese a Alimkhanuly en la pelea por el título interino.

A little less than a month ago, the WBO gave the go-ahead for middleweight world champion Demetrius Andrade to fight for an interim WBO super middleweight title without having to vacate the belt he holds. As this has postponed the access to the world championship for the mandatory challenger Janibek Alimkhanuly, a fight was ordered for an interim WBO middleweight title between the aforementioned Kazakh boxer and Esquiva Falcao.
Well, Falcao, who won an IBF eliminator and who is waiting for an opportunity against Golovkin, has ended up rejecting the WBO interim bout, so the Organization has had to propose the match against Alimkhanuly to another candidate, who has been the number 1 in the ranking Jaime Munguía. In the official letter issued by the WBO, it has been stated that the teams of both boxers have 10 days to reach an agreement or, otherwise, the fight will go to a purse bid with minimum bids of $200,000.
The undefeated Alimkhanuly, world amateur gold medalist, is a very dangerous boxer but insufficiently known by the public, which is why many consider it unlikely that Munguía will accept this confrontation. Also, it should be noted that Munguía has the right to fight in a WBC middleweight eliminator against Carlos Adames, who has many more gaps in his boxing and who seems much more beatable than Alimkhanuly.
So while it will take a few days to see how the matter plays out, it wouldn’t be surprising if the WBO ends up having to find a new contender to face Alimkhanuly for the interim title fight.
