Jade Bornea ganó eliminatoria final ante Mohammed Obbadi y disputará mundial supermosca contra Jerwin Ancajas

Unos días antes de que se produjese un combate definitorio para su carrera, se hizo oficial que el invicto prospecto filipino Jade “Hurricane” Bornea 17(11KO)-0 había fichado con la compañía Probellum. Esto era un evidente gesto de confianza de la promotora respecto a las posibilidades de éxito del púgil en la eliminatoria mundialista que iba a encarar el viernes ante un complejo rival como el marroquí Mohammed Obbadi 22(13KO)-2(2). Pues bien, sobre el ring Bornea no decepcionó a su nueva promotora y se anotó una gran victoria con un KO en el tercer asalto.
Al comienzo Obbadi trató de presionar mientras Bornea se reposicionaba con pasos laterales, si bien por lo general ambos se estudiaron con sus rectos antes de comenzar a hacer pruebas significativas con abiertos curvos o tensos directos. Tras este comienzo, en el segundo episodio Bornea cambió su guardia a zurda, algo que se tradujo en que empezó a conectar algunos peligrosos izquierdazos y cruzados de mano adelantada, destacando entre todo ello un recto zurdo que movió a Obbadi después de que éste errase un puño.
De todos modos, estos primeros apuros del boxeador africano no rompieron el duelo, sino que Bornea no aceleró en busca de la detención y Obbadi intentó realizar salteadas contraofensivas para mantener el terreno. Por ello, se alcanzó el tercer asalto, en el que el tagalo fijó a su oponente con directos y le alcanzó con algunos hooks abajo que provocaron clinches de su oponente. Inicialmente, Obbadi buscó también volver a arrojar ofensivas para intentar sacudirse la presión pero recibió contragolpes que le afectaron más de lo que pudo padecer. Y es que finalmente el marroquí decidió correr por el ring mientras lanzaba golpes con voluntad disuasoria perseguido por un Bornea que, impactando un gancho zurdo al torso, llevó a Obbadi al tapiz durante toda la cuenta del árbitro.
Cuando no se sabe cuánto puede dar de sí un prospecto, lo que mejor puede hacer éste para demostrar su valía es lograr una convincente victoria en su mayor test. Esto es lo que hizo Bornea, pero yendo incluso más allá, puesto que le asestó la derrota más rápida de su carrera a un púgil con cualidades y aspiraciones. Ciertamente, la experiencia de Bornea todavía es escasa como para acceder en circunstancias ideales al campeonato mundial contra el monarca IBF Jerwin Ancajas, pero es un boxeador fuerte, con pegada y con una habilidad que no se debe subestimar, de modo que al menos debería ofrecer una contendida pugna y un notable esfuerzo contra el titular.
“Chihuas” Rodríguez venció
En el otro combate de calibre de la noche, el mexicano Francisco “Chihuas” Rodríguez 35(25KO)-5(1)-1 regresó a la senda del triunfo batiendo por KOT en el séptimo asalto a su compatriota Arnulfo Salvador 15(9KO)-2(1)-1. El no favorito Salvador ofreció un notable esfuerzo, atacando con tesón en muchos momentos, pero Rodríguez comenzó a decantar el choque con un knockdown en el tercer asalto. En adelante Salvador lo siguió intentando, pero “Chihuas” se llevó la mejor parte y terminó dejando tocado a su oponente, decretando el árbitro el KOT pese a las protestas del equipo del vencido.

A few days before a career-defining matchup, it was made official that undefeated Filipino prospect Jade “Hurricane” Bornea 16(10KO)-0 had signed with Probellum. This was an obvious demonstration of confidence by the promoter regarding the boxer’s chances in the eliminator that he was going to face on Friday against the Moroccan Mohammed Obbadi 22(13KO)-1(1). Well, in the ring Bornea did not disappoint his new promoter and scored a great victory with a KO in the third round.
At first Obbadi tried to press while Bornea repositioned himself with lateral steps, although both generally measured each other with straight punches before beginning to make significant tests with hooks. After this start, in the second episode Bornea changed to southpaw and started to land some dangerous hooks with his right hand and straight lefts, one of which shook Obbadi a little after he missed a fist. However, these early struggles of the African boxer did not break the duel, as Bornea did not accelerate his actions in search of the stoppage and Obbadi tried to make counterstrikes to hold his ground.
Therefore, the third round was reached, in which the Philippine hit his opponent with straight punches and with some hooks to the body that forced his opponent to clinch. Initially, Obbadi sought to throw again attacks to try to shake off the pressure but received counterstrikes which affected him. So finally the Moroccan decided to move while throwing dissuasive punches pursued by Bornea, who connected a left hook to the liver that put Obbadi on his knees during the entire count of the referee.
When is not known how much a prospect can give, the best thing the up-and-comer can do to prove his worth is to pull off a convincing victory in his biggest test. This is what Bornea did, but going even further, as he dealt the quickest defeat of his career to a fighter with qualities and aspirations. Certainly, Bornea lacks experience to fight in ideal circumstances in a world championship against IBF champion Jerwin Ancajas, but he is a strong, hard-hitting boxer with skills that should not be underestimated, so he should at least offer a tough battle and a notable effort against the titlist.
«Chihuas» Rodriguez won
In the other featured fight of the evening, Mexican Francisco “Chihuas” Rodríguez 35(25KO)-5(1)-1 returned to winning ways by beating his compatriot Arnulfo Salvador 15(9KO)-2(1)-1 by TKO in the seventh round. The underdog Salvador put up a remarkable effort, attacking hard at many points, but Rodriguez began to put himself ahead with a third-round knockdown. From then on, Salvador kept trying, but “Chihuas” got better results in the exchanges and ended up hurting his opponent in the seventh round. Then the referee stopped the fight despite the protests of the defeated team.
